Motorola is set to join the list of brands incorporating Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip into their devices. The chip, which was introduced in October 2023, has already been adopted by several brands including Asus, Honor, iQOO, Meizu, Nio, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Redmi, Red Magic, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE. However, it is worth noting that Vivo and Sony are yet to release smartphones powered by the chip, with the Vivo X100 Ultra expected to debut in April and the Sony flagship anticipated to be unveiled in the first half of the year.
Surprisingly, Motorola was not initially mentioned in the list of brands incorporating the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. However, a recent leak suggests that the Lenovo-owned brand will indeed release a phone featuring the chip in China within the next few months. According to tipster Wisdom Pikachu, the Motorola Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phone is expected to go official in Q2 2024. Unfortunately, no further details about the mysterious phone have been revealed at this time.
In China, Motorola releases its flagship phones under the X-series, while the global market sees the launch of the Edge-series. In December 2022, the company unveiled the Moto X40, which was powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. This device was later rebranded as the Motorola Edge 40 Pro for the global market in April 2023. It is possible that Motorola's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phone may launch as the Moto X50 in China, and subsequently be repackaged as the Motorola Edge 50 Pro for the global market. However, this is purely speculative at this point.
As of now, there is limited information available about the upcoming Motorola flagship phone. Hopefully, more details will emerge in the coming weeks as the rumor mill continues to churn.
