Samsung has recently released its latest software update, One UI 6.1, which made its debut on the Galaxy S24 series. Although the update doesn’t bring significant visual changes to Samsung’s interface, it does introduce some new AI-powered features.
New AI-Powered Features
One UI 6.1 brings several AI-powered features to Samsung devices. One of these features is “Live Translate,” which allows for real-time phone call translation. This functionality could be particularly useful for bridging communication gaps.
Another feature introduced in One UI 6.1 is “Generative Edit,” which enables advanced photo manipulation. Users can now make more precise edits and enhancements to their photos with this AI-powered tool.
Additionally, One UI 6.1 introduces “Generative Wallpapers” that offer AI-designed customizable backgrounds. Users can personalize their device with unique wallpapers created by artificial intelligence.
Devices Getting One UI 6.1
- Galaxy S23
- Galaxy S23+
- Galaxy S23 Ultra
- Galaxy S23 FE
- Galaxy Tab S9
- Galaxy Tab S9+
- Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra
- Galaxy Z Fold 5
- Galaxy Z Flip 5
The rollout for these devices is expected to take place in the first half of 2024. Test builds of One UI 6.1 have already been spotted for other devices as well, such as the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy A54, and Galaxy A34.
Considerations for Older Devices
It’s important to note that on older devices, the more complex AI features may not function as smoothly due to less powerful processors. These features might require an internet connection for processing, unlike the Galaxy S24’s partial on-device capabilities. Additionally, not all features may be available on every device receiving the update.
Subscription-Based AI Features
Samsung has mentioned that some of the latest AI features will only be free until the end of 2025. After that, they might require a subscription. However, Samsung has not provided specific details regarding this subscription model. This means that even the new Galaxy S24 series could lose access to certain AI features after 2025.
