OnePlus CPH2613 Listed on BIS Before India Launch

Renders of a mysterious OnePlus smartphone were leaked earlier this month. This device bears model number CPH2613. The aforementioned phone has now been certified by BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards). Hence, we can expect it to launch in India soon. Not much is known about this product, except for its design and cameras. Also, it is anticipated to be a Nord series smartphone.

    Certification by BIS

The handset will arrive with a flat frame body. It will be fitted with a centered punch-hole display on the front. While the back panel will house a vertically aligned dual-camera system. The power and volume keys will sit on the right side. Whereas, the left edge will not include an alert slider.

    Design and Features

Finally, the USB Type-C port, speaker grille, and primary microphone hole will be located at the bottom. Whereas, the secondary microphone hole and an IR blaster will be placed at the top. Going by the design characteristics, the device could be either the OnePlus Nord CE 5 or the OnePlus Nord CE 5 Lite. These two phones are tipped to launch in the coming weeks.

    Camera and Specifications

As per Camera FV-5, one of the two cameras on the handset’s rear will be a 50MP sensor. While on the front, it will sport a 16MP selfie camera. According to previous reports, the Nord CE 5 and Nord CE 5 Lite will be powered by Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 and Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipsets, respectively. These phones were earlier said to be called the Nord CE 4 series as they will succeed the Nord CE 3 lineup. But now it appears just like most Chinese companies, OnePlus will skip the number ‘4’ as it is considered a bad omen in Chinese culture.

  • Potential Incompatibility: Older CPUs or PCs Could Miss Future Windows 11 Updates

Potential Incompatibility: Older CPUs or PCs Could Miss Future Windows 11 Updates

Microsoft is considering preventing very old computers from running the next major Windows 11 update, known as 24H2, due to a newly discovered requirement for the POPCNT instruction. This instruction, used to count set bits in a value, has been present in CPUs for decades but is not supported by many older CPUs.

    Impact on Compatibility

Intel introduced POPCNT with its Nehalem architecture in 2008, and AMD with its Barcelona architecture in 2007. Computers using CPUs manufactured before these dates may face compatibility issues with future Windows 11 updates.

    Hardware Restrictions

While Microsoft already limits Windows 11 installation to relatively modern processors (8th generation Intel chips or newer), this potential change may cause problems for users who have bypassed hardware restrictions on older systems.

    Microsoft's Focus on Hardware Requirements

It is uncertain whether this change is intentional or an unintentional consequence of including newer CPU instructions during the development process. This situation echoes a similar incident in Windows 10 that led to compatibility problems for some older processors.

Microsoft has not officially commented on this development, highlighting the company's increasing emphasis on stricter hardware requirements for its operating systems. Users with significantly older computers should consider these limitations if they plan to use Windows 11 long-term.

    Final Thoughts

Despite these potential changes, Microsoft has maintained restrictions on Windows 11 installation to compatible devices since its launch. If your device is on the compatibility list, there should be no cause for concern as it will continue to function normally.

Microsoft is currently finalizing the 24H2 version, expected for release to manufacturers (RTM) by April. For those eager to preview the 2024 update, the Insider Preview build of Windows 11 version 24H2 (Build 26052) is available through the Dev or Canary channel.

  • Apple Faces $500M+ Fine by EU: Report

Apple Faces $500M+ Fine by EU: Report

Apple is facing the prospect of yet another substantial penalty from the European Union, with reports indicating a fine that could reach close to 500 million euros ($539 million). This development adds to the series of actions taken by the EU to enforce its laws rigorously, placing the tech giant in a challenging position within the regulatory landscape.

    The European Commission’s Concerns

At the center of the issue lies Apple’s App Store, which has come under scrutiny for its policies, particularly in the music streaming sector. Last year, the European Commission raised concerns about the App Store’s rules, alleging that they unfairly constrain developers. These policies prevent developers from informing users about alternative purchasing options that might offer more competitive deals or additional features.

    Implications for Tech Giants

This impending fine, although significant in its monetary value, serves as a broader reminder of the delicate balance that tech giants like Apple must maintain in meeting regulatory requirements. Apple’s traditionally stringent control over its ecosystem could necessitate a strategic shift to ensure alignment with the EU’s standards, potentially averting future penalties and fostering a smoother relationship with regulatory authorities.

    The Road Ahead

The formal announcement of the fine is expected in the coming month, with both the European Commission and Apple yet to publicly respond. Apple’s response and subsequent actions will be closely monitored, reflecting the company’s ongoing struggle to navigate regulatory expectations while upholding its market-leading position. This looming penalty of $500 million serves as a costly cautionary tale, underscoring the challenges faced by major corporations in an environment of heightened regulatory scrutiny.

This situation underscores the evolving landscape of tech regulation and the intricate dance that companies like Apple must perform to maintain compliance and innovation simultaneously. As the tech industry continues to evolve, the outcome of this fine will shed light on Apple’s ability to adapt to regulatory demands and uphold its prominence in the global market.
