Li Auto's Mega Minivan Charging Capabilities

Li Auto, known for its high-end EVs in China, is pushing boundaries with the Mega minivan. The minivan's charging speed is a standout feature. During a demonstration at a fast-charging station, the Mega went from nearly empty (below 10%) to 80% charged in just 10 minutes and 36 seconds. This quick turnaround surpasses typical U.S. EV charging times by a significant margin.

Comparison with U.S. EV Charging Speeds

To put things into perspective, the fastest EVs in the U.S., like the Kia EV6, might take approximately 18 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. While most EV owners charge their vehicles overnight at home, efficient charging on the go is crucial.

Impressive Charging Efficiency of the Mega Minivan

What's truly remarkable is the substantial range the Mega gains in such a short duration. Starting with only 68 kilometers of range remaining, it surged to 568 kilometers after the quick charge, equivalent to around 310 miles in just over 10 minutes. This achievement is partly attributed to the Mega's battery, supplied by CATL, a prominent Chinese battery manufacturer. The minivan boasts a peak charging rate of 521 kilowatts (kW), more than double the capacity of leading Tesla models. In contrast, the U.S. is striving to catch up, with top charging stations offering up to 350 kW and only a few cars capable of fully utilizing such power.
