Xiaomi Testing Satellite Communication on MIX Fold 4 and Other Folding Screen Phones
Xiaomi is reportedly conducting tests on satellite communication functionality for its upcoming MIX Fold 4 and two other folding screen phones. The MIX Fold 4 is a vertical folding screen phone that features dual rear cameras, while the flagship model of the lineup is a horizontal folding phone equipped with four rear cameras.
New details regarding the satellite communications testing for Xiaomi's folding screen phone lineup have been revealed by blogger Smart Pikachu. The accompanying images showcased what was claimed to be self-developed components. In addition to the horizontal folding screen phone, Xiaomi has also launched a low-priced version of the model.
Satellite communications have been a previously mentioned feature in Xiaomi smartphones. Back in September 2023, it was reported that a special version of the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro would include satellite communication, but this feature never materialized. There have also been speculations about the Xiaomi Mi 14 Ultra undergoing tests for the satellite communication feature.
The upcoming mobile phone is rumored to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and will adopt a four-camera periscope dual-focal segment route. The previous iteration of the MIX Fold series featured a Leica optical full-focus four-camera setup. The Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 boasted a 50MP Sony IMX800 main camera, a 10MP telephoto lens, a 10MP periscope telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens.
The incorporation of satellite communications functionality is expected to further enhance the premium rating of the Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 folding screen smartphone. Additionally, the folding design of the smartphone will contribute to a lighter overall weight. As of now, there is no official information regarding the release date or pricing details for the Xiaomi MIX Fold 4.
