Oppo and Hasselblad introduced the Hasselblad HyperTone camera system at the annual photography forum keynote in France on November 8, marking the beginning of a collaborative project set to enhance flagship phone cameras for the 2024 lineup, starting with the Find X7 series. This joint effort aims to pioneer advancements in computational photography through the integration of aesthetic traction technology and effects.
Highlights of the HyperTone Camera System
The HyperTone Image Engine, described by Oppo as a pioneering technology, utilizes computational photography to tackle common challenges encountered in mobile photography, such as distortion. It introduces AI denoising in the RAW domain and implements precise pixel brightness correction through photon matrix technology. As a result of these innovations, there is a notable 30 percent enhancement in image clarity and an impressive 60 percent reduction in image noise. Additional upgrades involve tone mapping control and image fusion with digital negatives.
OPPO and Hasselblad Reveal the HyperTone Camera System
Comprising a blend of hardware and software improvements, the HyperTone camera system comprises three core elements:
- The primary camera system, offering enhanced zoom capabilities and diverse viewing angles to inspire creativity
- The image engine, leveraging sophisticated computations for noise reduction and enhanced image sharpness
- The ProXDR display, boasting a brightness level of up to 12 million pixels and delivering an up to eightfold increase in dynamic range to produce more lifelike visuals
At the event, the company presented its upgraded color sampling features, facilitating accurate restoration of skin tone attributes and addressing issues like blooming with the aid of onboard AI. These advancements also lend a heightened sense of depth to portrait photographs.
In the realm of portrait photography, the HyperTone camera system amplifies the three-dimensional aspect of faces. By expanding the color block samples for skin tones from 2 to 90, Oppo achieves precise reproduction of skin tone characteristics. Moreover, the natural portrait blurring mechanism mimics optical blur effects through internal gradients.
The debut of the HyperTone camera system is slated for the Find X7 flagship phone series, scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2024. The company emphasized that the Find X7 lineup will feature the most robust zoom lens among its telephoto modules, ensuring enhanced adaptability in low-light scenarios. For the uninitiated, the Find X7 and X7 Pro are anticipated to incorporate the Dimensity 9300 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets, respectively. Furthermore, the HyperTone camera system will be integrated into the OnePlus 12 and Oppo Reno 11 series of mobile devices.
