Sony Xperia 1 VI: Shorter, Wider, 2K Display, Mainstream Aspect Ratio

Sony typically reveals its flagship Xperia 1 series smartphones during the second quarter of each year. The upcoming Xperia 1 VI, also known as Xperia 1 mark 6, is anticipated to be announced in the coming months. Recent leaks have provided some intriguing details about the device.

Changes in Display Aspect Ratio

Tipster Zackbuks has indicated that the Xperia 1 VI will sport a 2K display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, departing from its previous 21:9 aspect ratio 4K display. Sony's shift aims to address the letterboxing issue faced by users due to the widescreen format, which led to black bars appearing on the screen edges during app and video playback optimized for a 19:9 aspect ratio.

Updated Dimensions and Features

The leaked information suggests that the Xperia 1 VI will have overall dimensions of 162 × 74.4 × 8.45mm, with the display measuring 149.6 × 69.4mm. Compared to its predecessor's dimensions of 165 x 71 x 8.3 mm, the new model will be slightly shorter by 3mm, wider by 3.4mm, and thicker by 1.45mm.

Retention of 3.5mm Jack

Despite moving towards a more conventional design, Sony intends to preserve the 3.5mm headphone jack in the Xperia 1 VI, a feature that is becoming increasingly rare among modern flagship smartphones.
