Oppo Watch X Launch Confirmed on March 22 in China

Today, Oppo made an official announcement regarding the upcoming launch of the Oppo Watch X smartwatch in China on March 22. The Oppo Watch X had its initial debut in Malaysia on February 29 and was previously showcased as the OnePlus Watch 2 at MWC 2024 in late February.

A notable difference between the Chinese and Global versions of the Oppo Watch X lies in the software utilized. While the global variant features Google’s Wear OS 4, the Chinese version will come with ColorOS Watch based on AOSP by Oppo, possibly resulting in a more competitive pricing strategy while maintaining consistent hardware specifications.

Appearance and Specifications

The global variant of the Oppo Watch X offers two color choices – Platinum Black and Mars Brown, with a strap crafted from “fluororubber” and a stainless steel buckle. The smartwatch boasts a 1.43″ 466×466 resolution circular AMOLED display with 326PPI pixel density. It can achieve up to 1000 nits in high brightness mode and 600 nits in default maximum brightness. With a 500 mAh battery and a weight of approximately 80 grams inclusive of the strap, the Chinese version is said to support eSIM functionality.

Dual-Chipset Architecture

In terms of processing power, the Oppo Watch X features a dual-chipset architecture similar to the OnePlus Watch 2. The Snapdragon W5 chip handles intensive tasks, while a low-power co-processor microcontroller unit (BES2700BP) manages less demanding operations. The smartwatch is designed for a 12-day battery life. Although Google introduced the dual-chipset architecture with Wear OS 4 on the OnePlus Watch 2, it remains uncertain if Oppo has integrated the same technology into the Chinese version running the AOSP-based ColorOS Watch OS.

Pricing (Rumored)

While the official pricing for the Chinese market is yet to be disclosed, previous leaks suggest that the Oppo Watch X could be priced around ¥1,000 ($140) in China. This rumored cost is notably more budget-friendly compared to the global market pricing. For context, the Oppo Watch X with Wear OS is currently priced at NT$10,990 ($366) in Taiwan.
