Honor Announces Snapdragon 8 Elite Phone Launch Date

We've been hearing whispers about which brand would be the first to launch a smartphone using the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. For a time, it seemed like Xiaomi was leading the pack, but recent rumors indicate that OnePlus could also be a contender. However, Honor has officially confirmed the launch date for its Magic 7 series smartphones.

Honor Magic 7 Series Launch Announcement

Honor shared its announcement through a Weibo post today. The company laid out plans for two distinct events happening this month. The first event, set for October 23rd, will introduce MagicOS 9.0, the upcoming operating system based on Android 15. The teaser poster that came with the announcement suggests an AI-focused approach for MagicOS 9.0, featuring the slogan “witness the magic of AI.”

Major News About the Magic 7 Series

The more significant update is the confirmation of the Magic 7 series launch on October 30th. This is the first official announcement of a launch date for a smartphone utilizing the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. However, it's essential to remember that this doesn't 100% mean that Honor will be the first to release a phone with this processor. Qualcomm is set to officially unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite on October 21st. Furthermore, a recent report indicates that a wave of flagship launches featuring this chip will start on October 28th, leaving room for Xiaomi and other brands to possibly take the title of the first Snapdragon 8 Elite phone.

Expected Specifications for the Honor Magic 7 Series

The Magic 7 series is expected to include two models—a standard version and a Pro variant. Based on the leaks available so far, the two devices may share several features. Both the Magic 7 and Magic 7 Pro are likely to be powered by the same SoC and will feature a triple-camera setup on the back. The main sensor is rumored to be a 50MP Omnivision OV50H, accompanied by a periscope telephoto camera of 50MP, potentially the Sony IMX882, and a third sensor that could either be 50MP or 200MP (Samsung HP3).

Both models are anticipated to come with OLED displays. The Pro version is expected to present a higher resolution of 2K, while the standard version will feature a resolution of 1.5K. Earlier reports also suggest that the Magic 7 Pro might include support for satellite connectivity.

Additional Features of the Upcoming Devices

In addition to these specifications, the phones are likely to incorporate features like IP68/69 water resistance, ultrasonic fingerprint scanning, and 2D face recognition, along with Honor’s advanced eye protection 3.0. During this year's IFA Berlin event, Honor also confirmed that the Magic 7 series will launch with AI Agent, a personal AI assistant designed to adapt to user habits and device environments, allowing it to intelligently automate tasks across multiple apps and services.
