  • Huawei Mate X7 Launches Globally to Compete with Galaxy Z Fold7

Huawei Mate X7 Launches Globally to Compete with Galaxy Z Fold7

    Key Takeaways

    1. Huawei has launched new gadgets in China, with a global release typically following after some time.
    2. The Mate X7 is confirmed for international availability, with a launch event scheduled in Dubai on December 12.
    3. Other devices from the Mate 80 series may be announced alongside the Mate X7.
    4. The MateBook Fold is not planned for a global launch, suggesting the MatePad Edge will also be delayed.
    5. The global version of the Mate X7 is expected to include all features revealed in China.

Huawei has recently revealed a variety of new gadgets in China. Usually, the company takes some time before launching its products worldwide. For example, the Pura 80 Ultra was available globally about a month after its introduction in China.

    Upcoming Flagship Releases

This time, however, it seems that Huawei’s new flagship devices might not follow the same pattern. Up until now, the only international availability confirmed is for the Mate X7. It wouldn’t be surprising if other models from the Mate 80 series were also announced alongside the Mate X7 during the same event. On the other hand, the lack of a global launch for the MateBook Fold suggests that the MatePad Edge likely won’t be released at the same time either.

    Mate X7 Launch in Dubai

Huawei is set to officially unveil the Mate X7 in Dubai on December 12. Based on previous releases from the Mate X series, we can expect that the global version will include all the features and specifications that Huawei revealed yesterday in China. For more details on how the Mate X7 compares to its predecessor and other devices such as the Magic V5, Find N5, and the Galaxy Z Fold7 (currently priced at $1,599 on Amazon), please refer to our Mate X7 launch article.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leaked Images Show Rival Cameras to Vivo X200 Ultra

    Key Takeaways

    1. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to be officially released in less than a month, with a global launch likely in March next year.
    2. Leaker Kacper Skrzypek has shared images of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Photography Kit, hinting at a photography-centric accessory for the device.
    3. The design of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra features a more rounded body and a large circular camera housing.
    4. The device is expected to have three visible rear cameras, including a prominent periscope zoom camera.
    5. There is speculation about a potential four-camera version, but the credibility of the leaked images is still uncertain.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to be officially released in less than a month. Current predictions suggest that Xiaomi will not unveil its next flagship globally until early next year. It is likely that the company will hold off until March to launch the device on a worldwide scale, similar to how it introduced the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Xiaomi 15 previously (curr. $875 on Amazon).

Sneak Peek of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra

In the meantime, leaker Kacper Skrzypek might have just shared the first glimpse of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, ahead of the company’s series of pre-release teasers. On X, Skrzypek simply mentions that these are images of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Photography Kit, without going into further detail. However, we can still gather some extra information, particularly that Xiaomi plans to include a photography-centric accessory for its upcoming flagship.

    Design and Camera Features

On one hand, it appears that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra sports a body that is a bit more rounded compared to its predecessor, featuring a large circular camera housing as well. On the other hand, there are only three visible rear-facing cameras, with a periscope zoom camera taking center stage, much like the Vivo X200 Ultra.

    Camera Configuration Speculation

Earlier, there were indications that Xiaomi might have designed the Xiaomi 17 Ultra with either three or four rear cameras. Alleged sensor details for the four-camera version have also surfaced. Therefore, the credibility of these images is still uncertain at this point, even though Skrzypek has a strong history of providing accurate leaks.

  • OnePlus 15R: First Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Release with 165Hz OLED

OnePlus 15R: First Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Release with 165Hz OLED

    Key Takeaways

    1. The OnePlus 15R is not a rebranded version of the Ace 6, contrary to previous beliefs.
    2. OnePlus will launch the 15R with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, not the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
    3. The OnePlus 15R will feature a 165 Hz OLED display, similar to the Ace 6T.
    4. The device will have an IP69K rating for dust and water resistance, matching the Ace 6T.
    5. The global launch for the OnePlus 15R is scheduled for December 17, with plans for an Indian launch as well.

The OnePlus 15R may not actually be a version of the new Ace 6, contrary to earlier beliefs. Initially, it was thought that OnePlus was simply rebranding the Ace 6 for international customers, similar to what they did with the Ace 5 and the OnePlus 13R, which is currently priced at $549 on Amazon. However, recent reports have surfaced suggesting that OnePlus plans to bypass the Snapdragon 8 Elite and Ace 6 in favor of a different chipset.

    Confirmation from OnePlus

OnePlus has confirmed this information through several recent posts on social media. The company is gearing up to launch the OnePlus 15R with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which Qualcomm announced earlier today. Interestingly, this is the same processor that powers the Ace 6T, which OnePlus has stated will come equipped with a 165 Hz OLED display.

    Similar Features

If the similarities weren’t already clear, OnePlus has also revealed that the OnePlus 15R will boast an IP69K rating for dust and water resistance, just like the Ace 6T. The global launch for the OnePlus 15R is set for December 17, and an Indian launch is also in the works. At this point, it looks like the OnePlus 15R will be the first smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 to be released worldwide.

    Key Takeaways

    1. Ultra-thin Design: The Tecno Slim 5G is less than 6 mm thick with a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen and Gorilla Glass 7i for protection.

    2. Mid-range Performance: Powered by MediaTek Dimensity 6400 SoC, 8 GB of RAM, and up to 256 GB storage, it supports 5G but lacks eSIM.

    3. Camera Capabilities: Features a 50 MP main camera and 13 MP front camera; good daytime performance but struggles in low-light conditions.

    4. Battery and Charging: The 5,160 mAh battery offers decent usage time, taking about 111 minutes to fully recharge with 45-watt charging.

    5. Software and Features: Runs on Android 15 (upgradable to Android 16) with a two-year update timeline; includes unique features like an optical fingerprint sensor and an LED notification light.

The Tecno Slim 5G is a remarkably thin smartphone, measuring less than 6 mm in height. It boasts a vivid 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 144 Hz, protected by Gorilla Glass 7i. The design features a painted metal frame paired with a fibreglass back, giving it stability, though there are noticeable and uneven gaps in certain areas.

    Technical Specifications

On the technical side, this phone is considered mid-range, powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6400 SoC, with 8 GB of RAM and storage options of up to 256 GB. It is compatible with 5G, ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, but lacks support for eSIM technology. The voice quality is adequate, but the noise cancellation feature doesn’t perform very well. A standout aspect is the FreeLink function, which enables the device to connect via Bluetooth even without a mobile signal.
