    2. The OnePlus 13 update includes a bypass charging option to protect the battery during intensive tasks like gaming and streaming.

    4. The OnePlus Nord 5 and Nord 4 updates enhance the Circle to Search feature and allow direct access to storage cleanup tools from the Smart Sidebar.
    5. Currently, the updates are available only in India for users on OxygenOS 16, with a wider rollout expected soon.

OnePlus has launched a new OxygenOS update for its OnePlus 13, OnePlus Nord 5, and Nord 4 models. This update brings several new features and improvements, along with the latest Android security patch, to their flagship and mid-range smartphones.

New Features in OnePlus 13 Update

The main focus of the OnePlus 13 update (version 16.0.3.501) is the introduction of a bypass charging option. This feature lets your device take power directly from the charger, bypassing the battery. It’s a function we’ve seen on gaming smartphones for some time; it helps keep the phone cooler and protects the battery from overheating and constant micro-cycles, especially during gaming, live streaming, or prolonged navigation with the brightness set high.

Moreover, this update enables users to edit full-resolution 50-megapixel images without compromising quality, and the app drawer is now smarter with new categories like “Office” and “Finance” to help organize your apps better. Additionally, it raises the security patch level to January 2026.

Updates for OnePlus Nord 5 and Nord 4

OnePlus has also issued a new OxygenOS 16-based update for the OnePlus Nord 5 and Nord 4, which include similar enhancements aimed at improving user experience. The update notably enhances the activation of the Circle to Search feature. If you use gesture navigation and prefer to hide the guide bar (which many minimalists do), you can now activate the visual search overlay simply by tapping the bottom part of the screen.

Both devices can now directly launch storage cleanup tools from the Smart Sidebar, and enhancements to the Photos app have led to quicker loading of thumbnails. Lastly, this update also includes the latest security patches for January 2026.

    Availability of Updates

Currently, these updates are available only to users in India who are operating on OxygenOS 16, which is OnePlus’ newest software skin based on Android 16. A broader rollout is expected to occur in the coming weeks.

  • OnePlus Mid-Range Showdown: Which Model Is Worth Your Money?

OnePlus Mid-Range Showdown: Which Model Is Worth Your Money?

    Key Takeaways

    1. The OnePlus Nord 5 is priced around $560, while the OnePlus Nord CE 5 is more affordable at about $320, raising questions about the value of the higher-priced model.
    2. The OnePlus Nord CE 5 competes strongly with the Nord 5, even outperforming it in some areas despite being a “Lite” version.
    3. Both models have similar performance and camera systems, with only minor differences in features like front camera resolution and macro capability.
    4. The Nord 5 offers some premium features like wired reverse charging and a glass back, but the differences between the two phones are minimal given the price gap.
    5. For those seeking good value, the OnePlus Nord CE 5 is recommended due to its comparable performance and lower cost.

We have recently taken a look at the OnePlus Nord CE 5, and not long ago, we also shared our comprehensive review of the OnePlus Nord 5. Both of these devices belong to the mid-range category from OnePlus, yet they vary in pricing: the OnePlus Nord 5 is around $560, while the OnePlus Nord CE 5 retails for about $320. This notable difference in price invites the question: is the OnePlus Nord 5 really worth the higher price tag?

    Strong Competition

Interestingly, OnePlus might have made a wise move in only putting out a “Lite” version of its Nord CE series lately, as the OnePlus Nord CE 5 shows itself to be a formidable rival to the OnePlus Nord 5, even boasting slightly better performance in some areas.

    Similar Performance

When it comes to performance, the two models are quite alike. They share almost the same camera systems, with the exception of the OnePlus Nord 5’s higher resolution front camera and its capability to take macro shots.

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 also features a screen that’s brighter, despite having a lower resolution. Sure, you get a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz with the OnePlus Nord 5, while the more affordable model offers 120 Hz. But honestly, will users really spot the difference in daily use? Likely not.

    Minor Differences

Even in terms of Wi-Fi speed, both smartphones are quite comparable.

The OnePlus Nord 5 provides wired reverse charging and stereo speakers. Its back is crafted from glass, which gives it a more luxurious feel than the plastic back of the Nord CE 5.

In general, it’s quite remarkable how little separates these two models, especially considering their price gap of over $200.

With such a large difference in price and minimal variation in performance and features, we would wholeheartedly suggest the OnePlus Nord CE 5 if you’re looking for the best value for your money.

  • Shrinkflation in Smartphones: A Growing Concern for Consumers

Shrinkflation in Smartphones: A Growing Concern for Consumers

    Key Takeaways

    1. Many new smartphones are released annually, creating excitement among consumers for upgrades and new features.
    2. Not all smartphones show improvement over their predecessors; some models may regress in key areas.
    3. The OnePlus Nord 5 has switched from a premium metal unibody design to a plastic body compared to the Nord 4.
    4. The OnePlus Nord 5 has lower storage and RAM options than the previous model, reducing its overall capabilities.
    5. The OnePlus Nord 5 lacks the iconic physical notification slider, replacing it with a new programmable Plus Key.

Hundreds of new smartphones are released each year, and many consumers eagerly anticipate these new gadgets. This excitement could stem from the need for an upgrade or a desire to see how the features and specifications of these devices are advancing.

    Not All Phones Show Improvement

However, not every phone demonstrates progress compared to its predecessor. In fact, some models take noticeable steps backward. A case in point is the OnePlus Nord 5, which we recently reviewed. It’s certainly a solid device that received a decent overall score in our evaluation.

    Comparing with the Previous Model

Yet, when you compare it to last year’s OnePlus Nord 4, the reductions are quite apparent. In 2024, OnePlus promoted a metal unibody design in a premium mid-range smartphone priced under €500. The Nord 5, however, has switched to a plastic body. While the design remains sturdy and visually appealing, it lacks the premium feel and is far less impressive.

The OnePlus Nord 5 also shows a decline in storage capabilities. It now only features UFS 3.1 flash, while the previous model boasted the faster UFS 4.0. Additionally, the RAM has decreased, with options of 8GB or 12GB instead of the earlier 12GB or 16GB. Although this may not significantly affect everyday usage, it is still a step down.

    Missing Iconic Features

Another notable absence is the physical notification slider, which has been a classic element of OnePlus devices. Instead, there’s a new programmable Plus Key.

  • OnePlus Nord 5 Review: Great Smartphone Overshadowed by Rival Model

OnePlus Nord 5 Review: Great Smartphone Overshadowed by Rival Model

    Key Takeaways

    1. Affordable Premium Experience: The OnePlus Nord 5 offers a high-end experience under $500 with features like a 144 Hz AMOLED display and strong performance.

    2. Cost-Cutting Adjustments: Compared to its predecessor, the Nord 5 has a smaller battery, slower storage, less RAM, and a changed notification slider.

    3. Material Changes: The build quality has shifted from metal in the Nord 4 to plastic in the Nord 5, affecting the premium feel.

    4. Software Support: The Nord 5 promises up to six years of software updates, enhancing its long-term value.

    5. Alternatives to Consider: The OnePlus Nord 4 remains a strong option with its better build quality, faster memory, and additional RAM.

Designing a follow-up to a highly successful smartphone can be quite challenging. This is especially true during a time when cost-saving strategies are becoming more common. A recent example of this is the OnePlus Nord 5, which we explored in depth in our latest review.

Premium Features at an Affordable Price

Priced at under $500, the Nord 5 offers a high-end experience with its vibrant 144 Hz AMOLED display, a noticeably enhanced SoC performance compared to the Nord 4, decent cameras, and robust speakers all housed within a solid build. Additionally, the promise of up to six years of software updates boosts its value for the future.

    Cost-Cutting Changes

Yet, there are clear signs of cost reduction in the Nord 5 when compared with its earlier version. The EU variant comes with a smaller battery, the UFS 3.1 storage is not as fast as the previous model, there is less RAM, and the beloved OnePlus notification slider has been replaced with a customizable plus button.

The most apparent savings can be seen in the build quality. The chassis is now made from plastic in 2025, in contrast to the Nord 4’s heavily marketed metal unibody. While the OnePlus Nord 5’s casing is still quite durable and visually appealing, it lacks the premium sensation of its predecessor. At least there are slight improvements to the camera features.

    Final Thoughts and Alternatives

If you are thinking about getting the OnePlus Nord 5, we suggest checking out our comprehensive review. It covers the smartphone’s advantages and disadvantages, and it also dives into the PWM aspect concerning the Nord 5.

Alternatively, you might want to take a look at last year’s OnePlus Nord 4, which stands out with its metal body, quicker memory, and extra RAM.

  • OnePlus Nord 5 Launch: Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 from £399

OnePlus Nord 5 Launch: Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 from £399

    Key Takeaways

    1. OnePlus launched the Nord 5 and Nord CE5, along with new accessories like the Watch 3, Buds 4, and Pad Lite.
    2. The Nord 5 features the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, offering a significant performance boost over the Nord 4, but is slightly less powerful than OnePlus 12 and 13R.
    3. It has a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 144 Hz refresh rate and improved 50 MP cameras but reduced peak brightness compared to the Nord 4.
    4. The battery capacity is lowered to 5,200 mAh with 80 W fast charging for global versions, while the Indian version has a 6,800 mAh battery.
    5. The pricing starts at £399, €449, and INR 31,999 for the 8 GB RAM model, with no confirmation on North American availability.

OnePlus has launched two new models in its Nord series today, alongside a new variant of the Watch 3, the Buds 4, and the Pad Lite in a combined release. In brief, the Nord 5 stands out as the stronger of the two devices. Nevertheless, it shares many design features with the more affordable Nord CE5.

    Powerful Specifications

The Nord 5 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, which we have previously evaluated in gadgets like the Poco F6 (currently priced at $345 on Amazon). This chipset features an ARM Cortex-X4 Prime core running at 3 GHz, alongside four Cortex-A720 and three Cortex-A520 CPU cores, and an Adreno 735 GPU.

In terms of performance, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 means that the Nord 5 will likely score about 15% lower than the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 13R in benchmarks, thanks to those models using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. On the other hand, the Nord 5 should provide a significant performance boost compared to the Nord 4.

    Display and Camera Enhancements

Changes from the Nord 4 include a fresh 6.83-inch AMOLED screen with a 144 Hz refresh rate and a pixel density of 450 PPI, although it has a 16% decrease in peak brightness at 1,800 nits. Additionally, OnePlus has added 50 MP cameras both on the back and the front for this model, featuring a larger 1/1.56-inch primary sensor. Interestingly, the availability of 16 GB RAM variants has been removed this time, but a 512 GB option is still provided.

    Battery and Pricing Details

The battery capacity and fast charging have been lowered from 5,500 mAh and 100 W to 5,200 mAh and 80 W for the global version. In contrast, the Indian version comes with a 6,800 mAh battery that also supports 80 W charging. The Nord 5’s pricing starts at £399, €449, and INR 31,999 (~$373) for the 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage model, which increases to £449, €499, and INR 37,999 (~$443) for the 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage version. Sadly, there has been no update on whether the Nord 5 will be available in North America.

    Camera Features

In our previous updates, we mentioned that OnePlus has chosen a 50MP main camera equipped with the Sony LYT-700 sensor, alongside a 50MP selfie camera that includes autofocus. Notably, both cameras will be capable of shooting 4K videos at 60 frames per second. Previous leaks suggested that the device will sport a 6.83-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with a resolution of 2800 x 1272 pixels, as well as configurations offering up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Additionally, it will feature a robust 5,200mAh battery that supports USB-C charging at speeds of up to 80 watts.

    Nord CE5 Details

  • OnePlus Nord 5 Camera Specs: Exciting Features and Drawbacks

OnePlus Nord 5 Camera Specs: Exciting Features and Drawbacks

    Key Takeaways

    1. OnePlus will launch the OnePlus Nord 5 on July 8th as a flagship mid-range smartphone with a strong price-to-features ratio.
    2. The device features a dual rear camera system with a 50MP Sony primary sensor and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), along with HDR technology from the OnePlus 13.
    3. The ultra-wide camera is an 8MP unit, which is seen as a downside due to its lack of detail compared to expectations.
    4. The front-facing camera boasts a 50MP Samsung sensor with auto-focus, allowing for high-quality selfies and 4K video recording capabilities for both front and rear cameras.
    5. Other notable features include a large 6.83-inch 1.5K 144Hz OLED display, a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip, a nearly 7000mAh battery, and a dedicated “Plus Key” for quick AI functions.

OnePlus is set to host a product launch event on July 8th. A highlight of this event will be the OnePlus Nord 5, which is the company’s flagship mid-range smartphone. Similar to its predecessors, this upcoming device promises a competitive price-to-features ratio. Before the official announcement, OnePlus has shared details about the camera specifications of the OnePlus Nord 5, revealing both positive and negative aspects.

    Camera Features

The OnePlus Nord 5 will feature a dual rear camera system, led by a strong 50MP Sony LYT700 primary sensor. This lens will come with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to enhance image quality. If you haven’t heard, this is the same main camera setup found in the more expensive OnePlus 13R. Additionally, the Nord 5 will adopt the flagship OnePlus 13’s HDR technology, which is expected to deliver impressive dynamic range and vibrant images for its market segment.

    The Trade-off

However, there is a bit of a downside: the accompanying ultra-wide sensor is an 8MP unit, which is somewhat underwhelming. While it performs its job, it’s disappointing that OnePlus has continued to use a less exciting ultra-wide lens since the first model in this series. For a phone that aims to impress users, an 8MP ultra-wide often lacks the detail and quality that users are looking for in wide-angle photography.

    Selfie Capabilities

On the bright side, fans of selfies will be pleased. The OnePlus Nord 5 is equipped with a powerful 50MP Samsung JN5 front-facing camera, which includes Multi Focusing (auto-focus) technology. This should allow for crisp and detailed selfies, which is great news for social media enthusiasts.

Both the front and back cameras are confirmed to support 4K video recording at 60 frames per second, which means that users can expect smooth, high-quality video capture, making this phone a strong contender for content creation.

    Overall Package

Aside from the camera capabilities, the OnePlus Nord 5 is shaping up to be an attractive device. It’s rumored to have a large 6.83-inch 1.5K 144Hz flat OLED display, a sleek glass back, and an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance. Inside, it is expected to house the powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip along with a nearly 7000mAh battery, all within a plastic frame. A notable addition is the dedicated “Plus Key” for quick AI functionalities, a first for this series.

To sum up, the OnePlus Nord 5’s camera specifications and features, combined with its other strong attributes, will make it a compelling option in its price category, despite the ultra-wide lens not being the most impressive part of the package.
