Pre-orders for Huawei Nova 12 series start on December 26, reservations now open

Huawei Confirms Nova 12 Series Announcement Date

Huawei has officially announced that the Nova 12 series of smartphones will be unveiled on December 26 in China. Customers who are interested in purchasing these devices can already place pre-orders through Huawei JD.com’s official flagship store. The pre-sale of the Nova 12 lineup will commence at 16:08pm (local time) on the same day. Following a similar strategy to the Huawei Mate 60 series, the Nova 12 series will be part of the Pioneer Plan, allowing users to reserve their devices ahead of the official release date.

Four Models in the Nova 12 Lineup

The Nova 12 series is expected to include four models: Nova 12 Vitality Edition (or Nova 12 Lite), Nova 12, Nova 12 Pro, and Nova 12 Ultra. Each model is anticipated to cater to different price ranges. The Vitality Edition is likely to be priced at around 1,000 Yuan, the standard version targeting the 2,000 Yuan price range, and the Pro and Ultra versions positioned at the 3,000 Yuan and 4,000 Yuan price range, respectively.

    Hardware Specifications

According to reports, the Nova 12 Vitality Edition and Nova 12 will be 4G models powered by Snapdragon chipsets. The Nova 12 is expected to feature the Snapdragon 778G 4G chip and support 66W fast charging.

On the other hand, the Nova 12 Pro and Nova 12 Ultra are likely to be equipped with an under-clocked version of the Kirin 9000s chip. The Kirin 9000s chip made its first appearance in the Mate 60 series, which was launched in September and October of this year. There are also speculations that the Nova 12 Ultra will offer two-way satellite communication.

    Leaked Specifications and Contradictory Reports

A recent report has already leaked the key specifications, configurations, and prices of all four devices. Additionally, there have been rumors about Huawei working on the Huawei Pocket S2 flip-style foldable phone, but there is no official confirmation regarding its debut alongside the Nova 12 lineup. Some contradictory reports suggest that the launch of the Pocket S2 has been postponed to 2024.

New Report Reveals: Oppo Find X7 Series Excludes Pro Model

The upcoming Oppo Find X7 series has been in the rumor mill for a good while now and so far leaks have pointed to three devices in the lineup — a vanilla Find X7, a Find X7 Pro, and a Find X7 Ultra model. But a new leak now suggests that the Find X7 series will not have a Pro model.

    No Find X7 Pro

The source for the leak is Digital Chat Station, who is a fairly well-known tipster in the tech space. However, the original post where the tipster shared this information has now been deleted.

Although the Find X7 series will not have a Pro model, the tipster suggests the lineup will still be populated by three models. There will be Find X7, Find X7 Ultra, and Find X7 Ultra Satellite Communication models instead.

    Ultra Models with Satellite Communication

As you may have guessed by the name, the two Ultra models will only be distinguished by the satellite communication feature, a detail consistent with Oppo’s confirmation of this feature in the Find X7 series.

The leak also says all the models in the lineup will have a 5000mAh battery with 100W charging support, while the Ultra models will also enjoy 50W wireless charging support.

    Similarities in Specifications

Notably, previous rumors have also highlighted similarities in specifications between the Pro and Ultra models. For instance, both devices are said to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, alongside a quad-camera setup consisting of 50MP sensors for the main, ultrawide, and two telephoto lenses. So we guess Oppo might have decided to technically launch only two devices in the series.

The tipster also shared display details for the Find X7 and X7 Ultra earlier today. The Find X7 will enjoy a 6.78-inch BOE 8T LTPO display with a 1.5K resolution. On the other hand, the Find X7 Ultra will have a larger 6.82-inch BOE 8T LTPO screen with 2K resolution.

    Launch and Updates

We are expecting the Find X7 series to launch early next year, but nothing is confirmed as of now. We will keep you updated on any new developments.

Newly Released Nubia Z60 Ultra Boasts 120Hz OLED Screen, UDC Camera, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Processor, and a Powerful 6,000mAh Silicone Anode Battery.

The Nubia Z60 Ultra has been officially released in China, marking ZTE’s third smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset for the Chinese market. While the Red Magic 9 Pro and Red Magic 9 Pro+ are gaming-focused devices, the Z60 Ultra focuses on delivering top-notch camera performance, making it a strong competitor to popular smartphones like the OnePlus 12, Realme GT 5 Pro, iQOO 12 Pro, and Xiaomi 14 Pro in the Chinese market. Let’s take a closer look at the specifications, features, and price of this device.

    Design and Display

Starting with the design, the Nubia Z60 Ultra boasts a display that offers a truly immersive full-screen viewing experience. Similar to its competitors, it features slim bezels, but what sets it apart is the absence of a camera cutout. Instead, it comes equipped with an under-display camera, utilizing ZTE’s fifth-generation under-display camera technology. This technology ensures better front camera performance despite being placed beneath the display.

The Nubia Z60 Ultra will be available in three variants: Star Collector’s Edition, Galaxy, and Star Glory colors. The Starry Sky Collector’s Edition features a distinctive back panel with a 3D starry sky design created using micro-etching technology. On the other hand, the Galaxy and Star Glory color variants incorporate AG frosting technology, which combines matte and bright finishes. Additionally, the device features an IP68-rated dustproof and water-resistant chassis. It weighs 246 grams and has a thickness of 8.78mm.

The Nubia Z60 Ultra sports a 6.8-inch BOE Q9+ OLED display with a resolution of 2480 x 1116 pixels and a high refresh rate of 120Hz. It also offers a 1200Hz instantaneous touch sampling rate, 2160Hz PWM high-frequency dimming, a local peak brightness of 1500 nits, 10-bit color depth, and a 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut. For security, it includes an in-screen fingerprint scanner.

    Specifications and Camera

Under the hood, the Nubia Z60 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. It offers options of up to 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM and an impressive 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. The device is backed by a 6,000mAh silicone carbon anode battery, which provides more energy without increasing the weight of the device. It also supports 80W wired charging, although wireless charging is not available.

On the rear, the Nubia Z60 Ultra features a powerful triple-camera system. This system includes a 50-megapixel Sony IMX800 primary camera with an 18mm focal length, a 50-megapixel OmniVision OV50E ultra-wide lens with a 35mm focal length, and a 64-megapixel OV64B periscope telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom and an 85mm focal length. All three cameras are equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS) and support 4K 120fps video recording. For selfies, it houses a 12-megapixel under-display camera with its display chip and an AI deep-sensing engine.

The Z60 Ultra runs on My OS 14, which is based on Android 14. It also includes various features such as dual SIM support, 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, dual-frequency GPS, an IR blaster, NFC, a USB-C (USB 3.1) port, an x-axis linear motor, and dual speakers.

These options provide users with a range of choices based on their storage and memory requirements. As for availability, the Nubia Z60 Ultra is currently exclusive to the Chinese market, and there is no information available regarding its international release.

  • Resident Evil 4 Remake pushes iPhone 15 Pro to its limits, struggling to maintain 30fps

Resident Evil 4 Remake pushes iPhone 15 Pro to its limits, struggling to maintain 30fps

Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Struggles with Gaming Performance in Resident Evil 4 Remake

Apple's iPhone 15 Pro series has been highly marketed as a powerhouse for gaming, with strong performance in AAA games like Resident Evil Village. However, recent tests conducted on the upcoming Resident Evil 4 Remake reveal a less-than-optimal gaming experience on the iPhone 15 Pro. In contrast, the M2 powered iPad Pro ran the game fairly well, posing a challenge for Apple's push into the gaming market.

Performance Tests Highlight iPhone 15 Pro's Struggles

MrMacRight conducted performance tests comparing the iPhone 15 Pro, M1 iPad, and M2 iPad, with a specific focus on "Resident Evil 4: Remastered." The results, presented in a video, indicate that the iPhone 15 Pro struggled to deliver a satisfactory gaming performance. The game, running at a resolution of 1560×720 with MetalFX sharpening technology enabled, consistently fell short of the capped 30 FPS (frames per second) on iOS.

Inconsistent Frame Rates and Stuttering Impact Gaming Experience

While simpler scenes maintained a relatively stable frame rate, reaching close to 30 FPS, more intense scenarios such as combat caused a significant drop, plunging below 25 FPS and sometimes as low as 20 FPS. This resulted in severe stuttering and impacted the overall gaming experience, especially when using a sniper rifle.

Lack of Customizable Settings and Absence of Ray Tracing

In contrast to the successful adaptation of Resident Evil Village on the iPhone, the iOS version of Resident Evil 4 Remake lacks customizable settings and relies on preset graphics. Notably, the much-anticipated ray tracing feature, previously emphasized by Apple, is notably absent in this game.

Heat Dissipation Issues Likely a Contributing Factor

One prominent factor contributing to the iPhone 15 Pro's subpar performance is likely heat dissipation issues. The device experienced rapid temperature increases during testing, triggering a reduction in frequency limit and exacerbating stuttering problems. This suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro may struggle with sustained gaming sessions.

M2 iPad Pro Emerges as a More Reliable Option

Interestingly, while the iPhone 15 Pro faced challenges with Resident Evil 4 Remake, the iPad Pro equipped with the M2 chip showcased superior performance. Running the game at a higher resolution with a more stable frame rate, the M2 iPad Pro emerged as a more reliable option for gamers.

In conclusion, the iPhone 15 Pro's performance in Resident Evil 4 Remake falls short of expectations, with inconsistent frame rates and stuttering issues. The absence of customizable settings and ray tracing further contributes to a less-than-optimal gaming experience. Apple may need to address heat dissipation issues to improve the gaming performance of their flagship iPhone series. Meanwhile, the M2 iPad Pro demonstrates its capabilities as a viable alternative for gamers seeking a smoother gaming experience.

  • Exploring Innovative Approaches: Apple’s Response to Apple Watch Sales Ban

Exploring Innovative Approaches: Apple’s Response to Apple Watch Sales Ban

Certain Apple Watch imports have been prohibited in the United States after the US International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled that Apple had infringed on Masimo's patents for a blood oxygen sensor. In response, Apple engineers are working urgently to modify the algorithms used for the blood oxygen sensor in the Apple Watch in order to avoid halting sales of the device.

According to Bloomberg, Apple announced today that it will cease selling the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 in the US starting from December 21. Sources familiar with the matter stated that engineers are currently making changes to how oxygen saturation is calculated and how users receive the data. These adjustments are expected to eliminate any technology that may be infringing on Masimo's patents.

Apple's decision to stop selling these models is in line with its previous announcement that it is exploring legal and technical solutions to resolve the issue promptly and resume sales of the Apple Watch. The hardware implicated in the patent infringement is responsible for powering the Apple Watch blood oxygen sensor, and Masimo believes that a software update alone will not be sufficient to address the patent violations. As reported by Bloomberg, Masimo asserts that "the hardware needs to change."

However, Apple seems to believe that a software-based solution could be effective. A representative informed Bloomberg that the company is working on submitting a workaround. Nevertheless, considering the need for testing the modifications, it is unlikely that a software update will be available before the sales halt. Hardware updates, if required, would take at least a few months to implement.

To comply with the ITC's ruling, Apple is taking proactive measures, even though the White House has until December 25 to make a final decision on the matter. As of December 21 at 2:00 PM Pacific Time, the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 will no longer be available for purchase in US stores. Online sales will also cease after December 24.

However, the Apple Watch SE, which does not feature a blood oxygen sensor, will still be available for purchase in other countries, along with the standard Apple Watch models. Apple intends to appeal the ITC's decision to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on December 26 if a motion for reconsideration is not granted.

In a statement released earlier today, Apple provided the following information:

"A Presidential Review Period is underway regarding an order from the U.S. International Trade Commission related to a technical intellectual property dispute involving Apple Watch devices with the Blood Oxygen feature. While the review period will continue until December 25, Apple is taking preemptive steps to comply if the ruling is upheld. This includes suspending sales of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 on Apple.com starting December 21, and in Apple retail stores after December 24. Sales of these devices in other countries are not affected at this time.

Apple is committed to creating products and services that empower users with top-notch health, wellness, and safety features. The company strongly disagrees with the order and is exploring various legal and technical options to ensure that the Apple Watch remains available to customers. In the event that the order is upheld, Apple will take all necessary measures to promptly return the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 to customers in the US."
