Bigme Returns to Crowdfunding With Dual-Screen Hibreak Dual 2 Smartphone

Bigme has launched a crowdfunding campaign for its latest dual-display smartphone, the Hibreak Dual 2, on Kickstarter. Pledges begin at approximately $560. The company’s established retail presence and track record of shipping products make this campaign less of a speculative venture and more of a high-profile pre-order strategy, though the standard financial risks associated with crowdfunding still apply.

Dual-Display Design With a High-Speed E-Ink Panel

Like its predecessor, the device pairs a primary E-Ink screen with a secondary LCD panel. The 6.13-inch E-Ink display has been refined into a nearly rectangular shape for full usability and offers a monochrome resolution of 824 × 1,648 pixels. When displaying color content, the pixel density drops from 300 PPI to 150 PPI, which is characteristic of current color E-Ink technology. One of the more surprising specifications is an advertised refresh rate of up to 80 Hz—an unusually high figure that will need to be verified in hands-on testing.

On the rear of the phone, a 5-inch LCD serves as a secondary screen with a resolution of 720 × 1,280 pixels. While the E-Ink panel’s boosted refresh rate may call its necessity into question, the LCD is expected to offer far more accurate and vibrant color reproduction for video and image-heavy applications.

Modern Internals and Stylus Support

Under the hood, the Hibreak Dual 2 runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 8300, a current-generation chipset. This is paired with either 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM, depending on the selected configuration. The smartphone includes dual-SIM 5G connectivity and supports stylus input for handwriting and sketching directly on the screen. A 4,450 mAh battery keeps the device running and supports charging speeds of up to 30 watts. For photography, the phone is equipped with a 50 MP main rear camera and a 5 MP front-facing sensor.
