Just a few weeks back, another leaker sparked excitement by suggesting that a completely new telephoto technology has been created for the upcoming Pro iPhones. This information was supposedly based on a commercial for the iPhone 17 that is reportedly in production in Slovenia. The leaker specifically mentioned an 8x zoom and a genuine optical zoom solution with adjustable focal lengths, much like what’s found in the Sony Xperia 1 VII.

Upcoming Sensor Enhancements

It’s pretty much a given that both iPhone 17 Pro models will receive a sensor upgrade, which is expected to include a 48-MP sensor behind the telephoto lens. This is a significant increase from the 12 MP found in the iPhone 16 Pro Max, allowing for a sensor crop that could facilitate a 10x zoom without excessive difficulty. Nevertheless, this alone might not be sufficient to claim the title of “Best Telephoto” in a smartphone. While the leaker has accurately shared several details in the past, he is not always correct.
