    A year after the launch of the rectangular Realme Watch 5, the smartphone manufacturer will soon be launching a round Realme Watch S5. Realme confirm on a teaser website that the new smartwatch will be officially unveiled on Friday, May 22. The watch has a very unusual design, as the round case has a flat exterior, the three buttons protrude relatively far out of the case and the bezel is printed with twelve markings.

    Design

    Though the Realme Watch S5, like the older Realme Watch 5, is likely a relatively inexpensive smartwatch, Realme is pushing a wide range of features, led by a 1.43-inch AMOLED display that achieves a frame rate of 60 Hz and a brightness of 1,500 nits. The display supports an always-on mode, but if this is activated the advertised battery life of 20 days is unlikely to be achieved.

    Display & Battery

    The smartwatch is waterproof up to a pressure of 5 ATM and can therefore also be worn while swimming. Realme advertises 110 sports modes. An integrated GPS module allows the distance covered while running or cycling to be recorded even without a smartphone.

    How it compares

    If those prices are correct Garmin CIRQA will be considerably more expensive than most rivals. Fitbit Air and Amazfit Helio Strap cost $99 each, Polar Loop is offered for $199. Only Whoop MG is even more expensive because a subscription for $359 per year is required to obtain that wristband. So if Garmin is indeed charging around $500 for its fitness wristband without a display, it remains to be seen what features will justify such a high price, and there is still no official launch date known.
