    October was a profitable month for both Nintendo and Sony’s hardware. The Switch 2 recorded nearly 140,000 sales in the UK, marking a 22% increase from September. On the flip side, PS5 sales were even more impressive, climbing 36% compared to the previous month.

    PS5’s Dominance Continues

    The Game Business highlights that the PS5 is the leading console in the UK for 2025. Interestingly, sales in October 2024 were 15.6% higher than in the same month of 2025. Since the Switch 2 was released in June, its performance should still be acknowledged. However, PlayStation has recently been making strides against its Nintendo competitor.

    Regional Trends

    In Spain, the PS5 has outperformed Switch 2 sales for several months in a row. Given that the PlayStation has been on the market since 2020, the pool of potential buyers is smaller. Still, PlayStation’s influence in Europe continues to expand even five years later.

    Sony’s impressive retail results can be linked to Ghost of Yotei meeting sales projections. Sales of Battlefield 6, a third-party title not available on Nintendo’s console, have surpassed expectations throughout the EU.

    Game Competition

    On the other hand, third-party games for the Switch 2 haven’t matched the success of Nintendo’s own titles. Pokémon Legends: Z-A launched in mid-October, but the upcoming months of November and December are set to be busy with first-party releases. Kirby Air Riders and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond are among the key titles that Nintendo hopes will lead to a record-breaking holiday season.

    Price Cuts from Sony

    To challenge Nintendo’s strategy, Sony has introduced price reductions that may help them maintain their market position. In Japan, they recently rolled out a specially-priced PS5 for that region. For gamers in the UK, EU, and U.S., a temporary seasonal price cut has been put in place to address concerns regarding rising MSRP.
