    Asus ROG NUC 2025 Mini-PC Launches with Nvidia RTX 50 GPUs

    Asus has refreshed the ROG NUC platform, which it first introduced last year, featuring Intel Meteor Lake processors and Nvidia RTX 40 laptop series GPUs. Just to remind you, the initial ROG NUC was quite impressive in our review, equipped with a Core Ultra 9 185H and a GeForce RTX 4070 (curr. $2,299 on Amazon).

    Performance Enhancements

    The ROG NUC (2025) is expected to deliver better performance overall, thanks to the introduction of the latest Arrow Lake-HX processors and RTX 50 laptop series GPUs. While Asus remains a bit unclear about the specifics, they have confirmed that the ROG NUC (2025) will utilize Core Ultra 7 and Core Ultra 9 processors. It’s also been stated that the GeForce RTX 5080 will be included, boasting 16 GB of GDDR7 VRAM.

    Enhanced Specifications

    This new version of the ROG NUC can accommodate up to 96 GB of DDR5-6400 RAM and comes with two M.2 2280 slots for PCIe Gen 4 SSDs. In addition, the mini-PC supports Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, along with a variety of ports:

    On top of that, Asus has packed all this tech into a newly designed chassis that measures 282.4 x 187.7 x 56.5 mm and weighs 3.12 kg. The mini-PC is equipped with three fans, one of which is specifically for cooling the CPU. Sadly, Asus hasn’t shared any details regarding pricing or when it will be available.

    Acer has updated its top-tier Predator Helios laptop series, now featuring robust Arrow Lake-HX processors from Intel alongside Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards. Like many products released recently, these laptops have been branded with an AI label, resulting in the names Acer Predator Helios 16 AI and Acer Predator Helios 18 AI.

    Specs and Features

    Inside, users can opt for configurations that include up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 275 HX and the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 laptop GPU. The limits for memory and storage can vary depending on the specific model chosen. For the keyboard, Acer incorporates its MagKey 4.0 mechanical switches, which allow for a travel distance of 0.3 mm.

    Display and Options

    The Acer Predator Helios 16 AI features a WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600) OLED screen boasting a 240 Hz refresh rate and Nvidia G-Sync with a peak brightness of 400 nits. The maximum configurations include 64 GB of DDR5-6400 memory and 4 TB of PCIe Gen 5 storage. Acer has even printed ’16’ on the edges, so you can easily remember your screen size while traveling.

    If the GeForce RTX 5090 seems too pricey, there’s also an option for the Predator Helios 16 with a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. Other specifications consist of a 1080p webcam and a 90 Wh battery.

    Larger Model

    The Acer Predator Helios 18 AI serves more as a desktop replacement, featuring a massive 18-inch 4K mini-LED display that refreshes at 120 Hz, with a peak HDR brightness of 1,000 nits (600 nits SDR) and full DCI-P3 color coverage.

    Acer has not announced whether alternative screen types will be available for this model, but you can exchange the 4K 120 Hz panel for a 1600p 240 Hz option if you prefer greater refresh rates.

    For memory and storage, you can max out at 128 GB and 6 TB, respectively. The only other GPU option seems to be the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080. Additionally, the Predator Helios 18 AI comes with a 99 Wh battery and a 1080p webcam.

    Sadly, Acer has not revealed any pricing details for these laptops and mentioned they will be available in the market sometime in Q2, 2025.

    Laptop fans from all corners are buzzing with excitement over the upcoming high-performance mobile CPUs from Intel and AMD. Intel’s Arrow Lake-HX series is likely to launch at CES 2025, and AMD is rumored to be preparing its Zen 5-based “Fire Range” laptop CPUs, which aim to surpass the popular Dragon Range CPUs known for their excellent multicore performance and gaming capabilities.

    Intel’s Arrow Lake-HX Lineup

    According to a Weibo post, a vendor from China has shared some disappointing news regarding Intel’s Arrow Lake-HX lineup. Specifically, the Core Ultra 9 255HX and the Core Ultra 275HX are expected to not offer significant upgrades. For those hoping for Intel to make a strong comeback, this news isn’t encouraging. However, the post didn’t provide further specifics or benchmarks, leaving us in the dark about what “not greatly improve” really means. Interestingly, the flagship Core Ultra 9 285HX, featuring 8 P-cores and 16 E-cores, still remains a surprise factor, although we haven’t seen any benchmark results for it yet.

    AMD’s Fire Range CPUs

    On the flip side, the vendor has also disclosed that AMD is working on successors to the “Dragon Range” CPUs, which will likely include a version with 3D V-Cache. Reports from both Golden Pig Upgrade and HXL suggest the new chip might be called the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, which would be fantastic if accurate, as it would save us from yet another rebranding. However, no specific details have been provided, so information about core counts and clock speeds is still unclear. The previous “Dragon Range” processors featured 16 cores and cache options of 64/128 MB, so we might expect something similar from the “Fire Range” series as well. Regardless, having desktop-grade chips in a mobile setup should guarantee remarkable performance, especially for high-end laptops.

Interestingly, Dell seems to be gearing up for its own updates that might not be too far off. In a surprising twist, at least two of these new models appear to borrow from Apple’s recent iPhone naming conventions.

    Insider information suggests that the Pro Max 16 Plus and Pro Max 18 Plus are set to make their official appearance next month at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. It’s important to mention that the images displayed below have not been confirmed yet. However, they align with earlier leaks and product visuals associated with Dell.

    Specifications and Features

    Reports indicate that Dell intends to equip the Pro Max 16 Plus and Pro Max 18 Plus with Intel Arrow Lake HX processors that boast 55 W TDPs. The total system power is expected to rise to 170 W and 200 W, respectively, when in performance mode, thanks to Nvidia RTX 5000 laptop GPUs. Notably, both laptops will incorporate a robust cooling system, earning them the title of ‘industry first 3 fan mobile workstation.’

    Additional Details

    Additionally, these models will feature dual OLED displays, offer up to 16 TB of storage spread across 4 M.2 slots, and include 256 GB of CAMM2 RAM. Importantly, these components are designed for easy access, making repairs and servicing simpler. Furthermore, both laptops will support Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, achieving transfer speeds of up to 120 Gbit/s in specific configurations. It seems that Dell may have more laptop refreshes in the pipeline for CES 2025, though details on those remain undisclosed.
