Samsung has introduced its first foldable smartphone under the FE brand. The new device, named the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, is a more budget-friendly alternative to the Galaxy Z Flip 7. In terms of specifications, it takes cues from the Galaxy Z Flip 6 but with some hardware compromises that raise questions.
Specifications and Performance
As anticipated from earlier leaks and Geekbench reports, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is powered by Samsung’s previous-generation Exynos 2400 processor. It comes with 8 GB of RAM, and storage options are either 128 GB or 256 GB. This limited storage capacity may restrict the device’s capabilities for on-device AI tasks, which typically require more memory.
Battery and Display
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is equipped with a 4,000 mAh battery, supporting 25-watt wired fast charging. Similar to the Flip 6, it features a 6.7-inch FHD+ display with a resolution of 2,540 x 1,080, alongside a smaller 3.4-inch cover display at 748 x 720 resolution. The camera setup remains unchanged, including a 50 MP wide-angle lens, a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 10 MP front camera. However, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 doesn’t show any improvements in this area either.
Connectivity and Features
In terms of connectivity, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE does not support Wi-Fi 7, sticking with Wi-Fi 6E instead. Other notable features include Bluetooth 5.3, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, IP48-rated water and dust resistance, along with One UI 8.0 based on Android 16.
Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE are now open, starting at €999 for the 128 GB model and €1,059 for the 256 GB model, available in Black and White. The device will be generally available starting July 25. While the €200 difference in price between variants is minimal, the differences in hardware are also subtle. Some might argue that opting for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is a smarter choice, given its Snapdragon processor and 12 GB of RAM.
