  • New Sony Xperia 1 VII Case Renders Support Microphone Movement Rumor

New Sony Xperia 1 VII Case Renders Support Microphone Movement Rumor

    Key Takeaways

    1. New renders of cases for the Sony Xperia 1 VII suggest a design change, particularly the relocation of the microphone.
    2. The microphone has moved from the top of the main camera to a position closer to the 3.5 mm headphone jack.
    3. Some images may be recycled from the Xperia 1 VI, raising questions about their authenticity.
    4. Skepticism is advised regarding these leaks, as nothing is confirmed until Sony makes an official announcement.
    5. The microphone relocation could improve audio quality, enhance sound capture for videos, and offer better noise-canceling features.

Recently, a user on Weibo posted several images that are said to show renders of cases for the Sony Xperia 1 VII. Although the device shown in these images appears to be the Xperia 1 VI (which can be found on Amazon), this is somewhat expected if the leak originates from a case maker that’s not directly linked to Sony. An interesting change for the Xperia series is the new position of the microphone, which has been shifted from the top of the main camera (on the right side when facing the screen) in earlier models to a spot closer to the 3.5 mm headphone jack on the left side for the upcoming 2025 version.

    New Renders Surface

Another set of purported Xperia 1 VII case renders has surfaced on X, and these also indicate that the microphone hole has been relocated. It’s interesting to point out that one of these “fresh” images closely resembles a leak that was shared for the Xperia 1 VI, and it’s quite clear that the device depicted in these pictures is not the 2025 Xperia 1. Nonetheless, the phone cases do exhibit several differences, suggesting that the images might simply be recycled CAD files, with the designer using last year’s model and just adding the label “Xperia 1 VII” to it. The key takeaway from this situation is the design variations among the cases.

    Skepticism is Key

As with all rumors surrounding the Sony Xperia 1 VII (and leaks), it’s important to maintain a healthy dose of skepticism, as nothing is truly confirmed until Sony officially announces it. However, relocating the microphone from the right side to the left side for the Xperia 1 VII might offer several benefits for users: it could enhance audio input quality, improve sound capture when recording videos, and allow for better noise-canceling features. This wouldn’t be the first instance of a case manufacturer leaking design elements or at least the shape of a new phone, and if Sony is indeed moving the microphone, it’s likely not just a random design change.

Samsung’s affordable foldable phone might not be as new as it seems. Trusted leaker OnLeaks, working with SammyGuru, has released detailed images of what is likely to be the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, marking Samsung’s debut in the Fan Edition category for its flip phones.

    Design Similarities

At first look, the Flip 7 FE looks almost the same as the Galaxy Z Flip 6, both on the outside and inside. The classic clamshell style remains, and the expected specifications indicate that not much has changed. The device is rumored to include a 3.4-inch cover display and a 6.7-inch inner foldable screen, which matches the Flip 6.

    Slight Changes in Dimensions

However, the FE model might be a bit heavier. It is said to measure 7.4mm in thickness when opened, compared to the 6.9mm of the Flip 6. Nonetheless, the overall size appears to be pretty much the same.

Interestingly, while the FE version retains the older design, the standard Galaxy Z Flip 7 is anticipated to offer a more significant upgrade. Reports suggest it will come with a larger 4-inch cover screen and will eliminate the traditional folder-shaped outer display that has become a hallmark of Samsung’s clamshell foldables.

    Expected Features

The leaked images provide a solid view of the design, but the inner hardware may feel quite familiar. The Z Flip 7 FE is expected to operate on an Exynos 2400e processor, a less powerful version of Samsung’s top-tier Exynos 2400 chip. For software, it will come with One UI 7 based on Android 15.

In terms of cameras, the phone is rumored to have a 50MP main sensor and a 12MP ultrawide camera. It will likely also feature an Armor Aluminum frame, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus for protection, and some level of water resistance rating.

Moreover, Samsung is likely to implement a long-term update policy for the Flip 7 FE. The company might promise six years of Android and security updates, or even seven, consistent with its other foldable devices. Other features anticipated include Wi-Fi 6E support and 25W wired charging.

  • MediaTek Renames 8s Gen 4 Rival to Dimensity 9400e

MediaTek Renames 8s Gen 4 Rival to Dimensity 9400e

    Key Takeaways

    1. Qualcomm’s new chip will be named Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, changing from the expected Snapdragon 8s Elite.
    2. MediaTek’s upcoming chip will be renamed from Dimensity 9350 to Dimensity 9400e to align better with its flagship lineup.
    3. The Dimensity 9400e is built on the Dimensity 9300 but offers enhancements, making it a “Dimensity 9300++.”
    4. The core configuration of the Dimensity 9400e includes a single Cortex-X4 prime core, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 performance cores, with potential improvements in clock speeds.
    5. OnePlus is developing a phone, the Ace 5V, that will feature the Dimensity 9400e chip, expected to have a 7000mAh battery and a flat 1.5K display.

Both Qualcomm and MediaTek are gearing up to release new sub-flagship chips, and it appears they are both changing their names ahead of the launch.

    Name Changes Revealed

Recently, a leak disclosed that Qualcomm’s next chip will be called Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, replacing the earlier expected name Snapdragon 8s Elite. In a similar fashion, MediaTek is reportedly altering the name of its upcoming chip.

A reliable source, Digital Chat Station, has indicated that MediaTek’s new sub-flagship chip, which was initially known as Dimensity 9350, will now be named Dimensity 9400e. This renaming might be a strategic decision to better align the 9400e with MediaTek’s current flagship lineup instead of being tied to the 9300 series. However, it is likely that the chip still shares many features with the Dimensity 9300 series.

    Specifications of the Dimensity 9400e

As per DCS, the 9400e is built on the foundation of the Dimensity 9300 but comes with sufficient enhancements to be considered “Dimensity 9300++.” It’s crucial not to confuse this with the Dimensity 9300+, which is already an improved version of the 9300. Therefore, it appears that the 9400e will provide even superior performance compared to the 9300+.

This probably means that the core configuration of the 9400e will mirror that of the 9300 series, featuring a single Cortex-X4 prime core, three extra Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 performance cores. The significant difference may lie in the clock speeds, which could provide a noticeable performance advantage.

    OnePlus and the New Chip

The same source has also previously mentioned that OnePlus is developing a phone that will utilize this chip. Reportedly named the Ace 5V, this device is anticipated to come equipped with a battery in the 7000mAh range and a flat 1.5K display, paired with the Dimensity 9350 (now believed to be the Dimensity 9400e).

While an official release date has yet to be announced, with Qualcomm’s 8s Gen 4 on the horizon, MediaTek seems poised to make the competition in the sub-flagship chip market quite exciting.

  • Samsung’s Unique Foldable Smartphone Design Approved in the US

Samsung’s Unique Foldable Smartphone Design Approved in the US

    Key Takeaways

    1. Samsung Display often showcases innovative concepts at major events like CES and MWC, but many do not reach mass production.
    2. The company hinted at new foldable screens supporting the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold6 and its initial consumer tri-fold.
    3. Samsung Display received design approval for a new foldable device that can fold both inward and outward, combining features from existing foldables.
    4. The latest design differs from the previous Flex In N Out concept presented in 2023, featuring an exposed screen area beneath a triple camera setup.
    5. While the new design’s mass production is uncertain, there is potential for a working model to be showcased at future trade shows.

Samsung Display, which is part of Samsung Electronics, frequently showcases ideas at events like the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and the Mobile World Congress (MWC). For example, at MWC 2025, they displayed several new innovations, such as the Flex Gaming and the Flexible Briefcase.

    Concept vs. Reality

Usually, these ideas remain just that and don’t make it to mass production. However, it appears that Samsung Display also hinted at foldable screens that will support Samsung’s initial consumer tri-fold and the next version of the Galaxy Z Fold6 (currently priced at $1,099 – renewed on Amazon).

    New Foldable Form Factor

Recently, the company has gotten design approval from the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) for a completely new foldable design. According to the patent sketches below, this design allows the screen to fold both inward and outward, unlike current consumer foldables that only fold one way. This means the concept merges features of the Galaxy Z Fold with those of the Huawei Mate Xs or Mate Xs 2 into a single device.

    A Shift in Design

The patented design is different from the Flex In N Out that Samsung Display presented at CES 2023, which was over two years ago. To summarize, the Flex In N Out appeared like a standard foldable that could fold both ways. In contrast, Samsung Display’s latest idea leaves part of its screen exposed beneath a theoretical triple camera setup. While the likelihood of this design becoming a reality is low, there is a possibility that Samsung Display could showcase a working model at a future trade show, similar to how they did this year with the Flex Gaming.

  • Oppo Find X8 Ultra: Hasselblad Camera Samples and Teasers News

    Key Takeaways

    1. Chinese smartphone brands, like Oppo, showcase pre-release sample images to market their devices, often using skilled photographers to enhance camera features.
    2. The Oppo Find X8 Ultra maintains a versatile 23 mm focal length and f/1.8 aperture, promoting its photography capabilities in “pro” mode.
    3. Oppo humorously critiques Vivo’s new smartphone by questioning its “Ultra” label due to a smaller sensor size compared to its predecessor.
    4. The dual periscope telephoto lenses on the Oppo Find X8 Ultra have improved light sensitivity, with claims of a 251% enhancement for the 6x telephoto lens.
    5. The upcoming Oppo devices, including tablets and wearables, are set to launch on April 10, with new features like a replacement action button and included charger and USB cable.

Chinese smartphone brands are eager to showcase pre-release sample images from their devices for marketing reasons. It’s wise to approach these photos with some caution, as companies tend to hire skilled photographers to highlight the best aspects of their cameras. This is particularly clear in the images Oppo released on Weibo on March 28, 2025, which aim to highlight the capabilities of the 23 mm main camera and the significantly enhanced 3x telephoto lens.

    Capturing the Moment

The two sample images below excellently illustrate what users can accomplish with a contemporary smartphone in “pro” mode, especially by playing around with shutter speed. The f/1.8 aperture and the 23 mm focal length equivalent have been carried over from the Oppo Find X7 Ultra, allowing for versatile photography.

    A Friendly Rivalry

In the teaser poster below, Oppo playfully poked fun at its sibling brand Vivo by questioning how a smartphone can be labeled as “Ultra” without a 1-inch sensor. This comment refers to the soon-to-be-released Vivo X200 Ultra, which will feature a 1/1.28-inch sensor instead of the larger 1-inch sensor found in its predecessor, marking a downgrade similar to what occurred with the Vivo X200 Pro. Similar to Xiaomi’s approach with the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Oppo has chosen to use the largest sensor format currently available for smartphones. However, the trade-off is that the other three sensors on the Find X8 Ultra are smaller than those on Vivo’s flagship model.

    Enhanced Telephoto Features

While the primary camera hasn’t changed much, the dual periscope telephoto lenses have seen significant advancements. Most importantly, Oppo has notably increased their light sensitivity, partly by using larger apertures. Although we’ve only heard Oppo’s claims of a 251% improvement in light intake for the 6x telephoto lens, the company has now shown enhancements to the 3x telephoto camera through three genuinely impressive sample images.

The aperture sizes ranged from f/2.0 to f/2.1 in the shots, as indicated by the Hasselblad watermarks, which is still a notable improvement compared to the f/2.6 offered by the previous model. The 70 mm telephoto lens shines as a light-sensitive portrait camera (one of its main functions), and the photographer captured this exceptionally well in the final image.

    Competing in Low Light

Recently, Oppo manager Zhou Bao shared a photo comparison on Weibo, highlighting the low-light capabilities of the new Oppo camera against four unnamed smartphones. As the company straightforwardly stated, the Find X8 Ultra clearly comes out on top in this comparison.

In addition to the cameras, a wealth of new details has surfaced about Oppo’s upcoming devices, including tablets and wearables, set to launch on April 10 in China. The teaser images below offer a comparison of displays and provide a closer look at the action button, which takes the place of the alert slider found on older Oppo and OnePlus devices.

We also got our first official glimpse of the packaging for the Find X8 lineup. It appears that a charger and a USB cable will be included in the box.
