  • Next-generation sensors for AR/VR headsets unveiled by Samsung

Next-generation sensors for AR/VR headsets unveiled by Samsung

Samsung Releases Two New Sensors for AR, VR, and Smartphones

Samsung has recently announced the launch of two new sensors, the ISOCELL Vizion 63D and ISOCELL Vizion 931, which are specifically designed to enhance the experience of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and smartphones. These sensors offer unique capabilities that address various challenges in capturing images and depth data, promising improved virtual and augmented experiences.

    ISOCELL Vizion 63D: High-Precision 3D ToF Sensor

The ISOCELL Vizion 63D is a 3D Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor with a 1/6.4-inch sensor size and 3.5µm pixels. This sensor is capable of measuring depth and distance with high precision. It can capture QVGA (320×240) images at 30fps and VGA (640×480) videos.

One notable feature of the ISOCELL Vizion 63D is its integrated depth-sensing Image Signal Processor (ISP). Unlike previous models, this sensor eliminates the need for a separate chip, resulting in a 40% reduction in power consumption. Additionally, it utilizes Backside Scattering Technology, which ensures high light absorption and low noise for improved image quality.

The sensor offers two modes: flood and spot. The flood mode prioritizes resolution at shorter distances, while the spot mode increases the range at the expense of resolution. This flexibility allows users to optimize the sensor’s performance based on different scenarios.

ISOCELL Vizion 931: Global Shutter Sensor

The ISOCELL Vizion 931 is a global shutter sensor that captures entire scenes at once, unlike rolling shutter sensors that scan line by line and may introduce motion blur. With a resolution of 640×640, this sensor is particularly suitable for applications such as iris recognition, eye tracking, and facial/gesture detection in XR headsets.

One of the standout features of the ISOCELL Vizion 931 is its industry-leading quantum efficiency for infrared light wavelength, resulting in sharper images. Additionally, this sensor simplifies circuit design and saves space by allowing the connection of four cameras using a single wire.

    Future Applications and Testing

Both sensors, the ISOCELL Vizion 63D and ISOCELL Vizion 931, are currently undergoing testing by device manufacturers. Samsung plans to incorporate these sensors into their upcoming mixed-reality headset and other AR/VR devices. The improved accuracy, efficiency, and image quality offered by these sensors hold great promise for enhancing the capabilities of AR, VR, and smartphone technologies.

    Pricing and Availability

Samsung has not yet announced the pricing and availability details for the ISOCELL Vizion 63D and ISOCELL Vizion 931 sensors. Interested users will have to wait for further updates from the company regarding the release of these sensors to the market.

In conclusion, Samsung’s latest sensors, the ISOCELL Vizion 63D and ISOCELL Vizion 931, are set to revolutionize the AR, VR, and smartphone industries. With their advanced features and capabilities, these sensors promise to enhance the overall user experience and open up new possibilities for future applications in the world of virtual and augmented reality.

  • Bluetooth SIG certification obtained for OPPO Pad Neo, indicating imminent release

Bluetooth SIG certification obtained for OPPO Pad Neo, indicating imminent release

Oppo Pad Neo: A New Tablet on the Horizon

Oppo is gearing up to introduce a new tablet to the global market, known as the Oppo Pad Neo. This tablet has already received certification from NBTC, IMDA, SIRIM, and has now made an appearance on the Bluetooth SIG certification site.

    Bluetooth 5.2 Support Confirmed

The Bluetooth SIG listing not only confirms the model number of the Oppo Pad Neo (OPD2303), but also reveals that the tablet will come with Bluetooth 5.2 support.

    A Rebranded Version?

Interestingly, the model number OPD2303 is the same as that of the OnePlus Pad Go. This suggests that the Oppo Pad Neo could potentially be a rebranded version of the OnePlus Pad Go, specifically designed for the global market.

    Similar Specs to Expect

Given Oppo's history of rebranding OnePlus devices, it's safe to assume that the Oppo Pad Neo will share similar specifications with the OnePlus Pad Go. This includes an 11.35-inch 2.4K LCD display with a 7:5 aspect ratio. The tablet is likely to offer 8GB of RAM and storage options of either 128GB or 256GB. Powering the device could be the Helio G99 chipset, while a substantial 8,000mAh battery with USB-C charging (USB 2.0 standard) is also expected.

    Camera, Audio, and Software Features

The Oppo Pad Neo is anticipated to feature an 8MP front camera and a rear camera for capturing photos and videos. To provide an immersive audio experience, the tablet might come equipped with four speakers that support Dolby Atmos. On the software front, the device is likely to run on ColorOS, based on Android 14. Additionally, users may have the option to expand the storage via a microSD card slot.

    Upcoming Launch

While Oppo has not yet announced an official launch date for the Oppo Pad Neo in the global market, the tablet's appearance on various certifications indicates that its release could be imminent. There is even a possibility that it will be unveiled alongside the Oppo Reno 11 series, which made its debut in China in November.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Oppo Pad Neo as we await its official launch.

  • Switching from 12MP, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra reportedly establishes 24MP as default for RAW images

Switching from 12MP, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra reportedly establishes 24MP as default for RAW images

Samsung is reportedly making some significant changes to its upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphone, particularly in the camera department. According to leaked information shared by source Ahmed Qwaider, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature a 24 million-pixel RAW image capture, a departure from the default 12 million pixels found in previous models. This move is said to be in line with Apple's strategy for the iPhone 15 Pro series, which uses algorithmic adjustments to output default images at 24 megapixels from its 48 MP sensor. Samsung seems to be aiming to keep up with Apple's imaging advancements.

Galaxy S24 Ultra's Improved Camera System

In addition to the increased pixel count, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is rumored to retain the same main camera resolution as its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which boasts a 200 MP main camera supporting multiple modes including 200 MP, 50 MP, and 12 MP. This suggests that Samsung is not making any significant changes in terms of the main camera's capabilities.

    Introducing the "Photo Remaster" Function

One notable feature expected to be introduced in the Galaxy S24 Ultra's camera system is the "Photo Remaster" function. Inspired by the Galaxy Book 4 series notebooks, Samsung is rumored to be incorporating AI elements to enhance images captured with the device. The Photo Remaster function is said to offer three distinct options: Portrait, Remaster, and Delete.

The Portrait option is designed to create a more nuanced depth of field effect for enhanced subject rendering after an image has been taken in normal mode. The Remaster option, on the other hand, provides a one-click enhancement for pictures. Lastly, the Delete option is anticipated to allow users to eliminate unnecessary elements from their images, similar to the Magic Fraser feature found in the Google Pixel 8 Pro but with a refined implementation.

ND Filter Feature for Enhanced Photography

Another rumored feature of the Galaxy S24 Ultra's camera system is the introduction of a Natural Density (ND) filter. This feature is said to adopt a similar implementation as the ND filters found in DSLR cameras, allowing users to control parameters such as shutter exposure. However, it's worth noting that the ND Filter feature already exists in the Expert RAW Labs section of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, so it may not be an entirely new addition.

Overall, the leaked information surrounding the Galaxy S24 Ultra suggests that Samsung is focused on improving its camera capabilities to keep up with its competitors, particularly Apple. With a higher pixel count, AI-powered image enhancement, and the potential inclusion of an ND filter, the Galaxy S24 Ultra seems to be shaping up as a promising option for photography enthusiasts.

  • Pre-orders for Huawei Nova 12 series start on December 26, reservations now open

Pre-orders for Huawei Nova 12 series start on December 26, reservations now open

Huawei Confirms Nova 12 Series Announcement Date

Huawei has officially announced that the Nova 12 series of smartphones will be unveiled on December 26 in China. Customers who are interested in purchasing these devices can already place pre-orders through Huawei JD.com’s official flagship store. The pre-sale of the Nova 12 lineup will commence at 16:08pm (local time) on the same day. Following a similar strategy to the Huawei Mate 60 series, the Nova 12 series will be part of the Pioneer Plan, allowing users to reserve their devices ahead of the official release date.

Four Models in the Nova 12 Lineup

The Nova 12 series is expected to include four models: Nova 12 Vitality Edition (or Nova 12 Lite), Nova 12, Nova 12 Pro, and Nova 12 Ultra. Each model is anticipated to cater to different price ranges. The Vitality Edition is likely to be priced at around 1,000 Yuan, the standard version targeting the 2,000 Yuan price range, and the Pro and Ultra versions positioned at the 3,000 Yuan and 4,000 Yuan price range, respectively.

    Hardware Specifications

According to reports, the Nova 12 Vitality Edition and Nova 12 will be 4G models powered by Snapdragon chipsets. The Nova 12 is expected to feature the Snapdragon 778G 4G chip and support 66W fast charging.

On the other hand, the Nova 12 Pro and Nova 12 Ultra are likely to be equipped with an under-clocked version of the Kirin 9000s chip. The Kirin 9000s chip made its first appearance in the Mate 60 series, which was launched in September and October of this year. There are also speculations that the Nova 12 Ultra will offer two-way satellite communication.

    Leaked Specifications and Contradictory Reports

A recent report has already leaked the key specifications, configurations, and prices of all four devices. Additionally, there have been rumors about Huawei working on the Huawei Pocket S2 flip-style foldable phone, but there is no official confirmation regarding its debut alongside the Nova 12 lineup. Some contradictory reports suggest that the launch of the Pocket S2 has been postponed to 2024.

  • New Report Reveals: Oppo Find X7 Series Excludes Pro Model

New Report Reveals: Oppo Find X7 Series Excludes Pro Model

The upcoming Oppo Find X7 series has been in the rumor mill for a good while now and so far leaks have pointed to three devices in the lineup — a vanilla Find X7, a Find X7 Pro, and a Find X7 Ultra model. But a new leak now suggests that the Find X7 series will not have a Pro model.

    No Find X7 Pro

The source for the leak is Digital Chat Station, who is a fairly well-known tipster in the tech space. However, the original post where the tipster shared this information has now been deleted.

Although the Find X7 series will not have a Pro model, the tipster suggests the lineup will still be populated by three models. There will be Find X7, Find X7 Ultra, and Find X7 Ultra Satellite Communication models instead.

    Ultra Models with Satellite Communication

As you may have guessed by the name, the two Ultra models will only be distinguished by the satellite communication feature, a detail consistent with Oppo’s confirmation of this feature in the Find X7 series.

The leak also says all the models in the lineup will have a 5000mAh battery with 100W charging support, while the Ultra models will also enjoy 50W wireless charging support.

    Similarities in Specifications

Notably, previous rumors have also highlighted similarities in specifications between the Pro and Ultra models. For instance, both devices are said to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, alongside a quad-camera setup consisting of 50MP sensors for the main, ultrawide, and two telephoto lenses. So we guess Oppo might have decided to technically launch only two devices in the series.

The tipster also shared display details for the Find X7 and X7 Ultra earlier today. The Find X7 will enjoy a 6.78-inch BOE 8T LTPO display with a 1.5K resolution. On the other hand, the Find X7 Ultra will have a larger 6.82-inch BOE 8T LTPO screen with 2K resolution.

    Launch and Updates

We are expecting the Find X7 series to launch early next year, but nothing is confirmed as of now. We will keep you updated on any new developments.
