Amazfit Helio Strap Update: 3 Key Improvements

    Key Takeaway

    – New training modes (basketball, swimming in pool) and ability to save favorite workouts in the app
    – Offline heart rate data syncing via smartwatch during swimming, with Helio Strap data having priority
    – Improved sleep tracking algorithm for more precise data
    – Extended pickleball mode adds data for forehand and backhand strokes
    – Positioned as an affordable, subscription-free alternative to Whoop 5.0 with reliable workout data

    Latest update brings fresh capabilities

The Amazfit Helio Strap which costs $94 on Amazon got a big feature update last December and now Amazfit are announcing yet another patch that will bring a bunch of improvements. The release notes highlight some of the new things from that earlier patch and once again talk about new training modes like basketball and swimming in the pool, plus the abillity to save your favorite workouts in a list inside the phone app. This makes it easier to keep track of what you do often.

    Connection upgrades for better data

However, there is also some new improvments included. After you do the update, it becomes possible to connect the Amazfit Helio Strap to a compatible Amazfit smartwatch. This lets the strap’s heart rate data be saved offline on the watch while your swimming, even if there is no Bluetooth connection to your phone. Amazfit says the Helio Strap’s heart rate info is more accurate than what a smartwatch gives, so it gets priority when recording any workout session.

Better sleep tracking and new sport modes

Amazfit also touts an improved sleep tracking algorithm, which should give you more precise data, along with an extended pickleball mode that collects extra stats such as the number of forehand and backhand strokes you make. For more details about the Amazfit Helio Strap you can check the official product page. In the press release for this software update, Amazfit points out again that the Helio Strap is a affordable, subscription-free alternative to the Whoop 5.0, and according to an analysis by The Quantified Scientist, it delivers extremely reliable workout data.

    – New OS features include improved UI, training suggestions, training calendar, and HybridCharge for load/recovery overview.
    – Upcoming improvements to weather app, map downloads, and Apple Health data sync are planned.

    Amazfit’s Latest Software Roadmap Drops

What is particularly exciting is that Amazfit will add support for Apple’s notification forwarding, at least for the Amazfit Cheetah 2 Ultra ($599 on Amazon) and for the new Amazfit Balance 3 and Balance Ultra.

    Apple Notification Forwarding Finally Arrives

Since iOS 26.5, Apple has allowed iPhone users in the European Union to forward notifications to third-party smartwatches. If this feature is activated, push notifications can not only be displayed on the smartwatch as before, it is finally also possible to reply to an incoming message directly on the smartwatch – a feature that was previously reserved for the Apple Watch on iOS.

Zepp OS 6 and Other Updates Coming

The roadmap also shows that Zepp OS 6 will be distributed to the Amazfit T-Rex Ultra 2, T-Rex 3 (Pro), Cheetah 2 Pro and Active 3 Premium in July. The new smartwatch operating system includes an improved user interface, training suggestions, a training calendar and HybridCharge, a feature that displays workout and lifestyle loads as well as recovery phases in an overview. Zepp Health’s New OS Update

Zepp Health has started to push the new Zepp OS 6 software to Amazfit smartwatches. The next generation operating system has been launched around a year after its predecessor, Zepp OS 5, which arrived with the Amazfit Balance 2 smartwatch (curr. $299.99 at Amazon). This new software brings alot of improvements and changes to the table.

    HybridCharge and Body Monitoring

One of the key features of Zepp OS 6 is HybridCharge. This function builds on the popular BioCharge Energy Monitoring, with more context to help you optimize your workouts. Users can take advantage of tools like LifeLoad to log things like stress, alcohol and travel, and their Rate of Perceived Exertion, to improve the accuracy of their HybridCharge score. Plus, they can get Boundary Reminders when their body may be reaching its limits during a workout, so they can adjust accordingly. Its a smart system for active users.

    Training and Performance Insights

Also included in Zepp OS 6 are deeper performance insights, such as customizable LTHR (Lactate Threshold Heart Rate) zones, and enhanced elevation charts. Compatible Amazfit smartwatches gain support for more third-party devices like rowing machines and indoor cycling sensors. Plus, plans, courses, race strategies and recovery metrics are now tied together under a broader training system for enhanced training. On top of this, training plans and workout history now sync to the same calendar. This makes tracking much easier.

    New User Interface and Tools

Overall, Zepp OS 6 is said to prioritize key information in an easy-to-read format and clearer hierarchy. It brings a new Launcher to Amazfit smartwatches, for faster access to apps, notifications and shortcuts. Other features include a system-level notification switch and a device lock tool. It is also worth mentioning that Daily Briefing has replaced the older Morning Update, with reports both morning and night. The interface feels cleaner now.

    Availability and Supported Models

Zepp OS 6 is currently available for the recently launched Amazfit Balance 3 and Amazfit Balance Ultra smartwatches. However, some of these features have already been pushed to older Amazfit smartwatches running Zepp OS 5. Users should check for updates on thier devices. The rollout seems to be gradual for now.

Zepp Health and the Introduction of a New 3D Game

Zepp Health, which owns Amazfit, has started to offer a unique app store where users can find additional apps tailored for their smartwatches. Recently, they’ve introduced their very first game with 3D graphics. But don’t expect a blockbuster, as the game is rather simple and meant more for quick entertainment rather than hours of fun. It’s primarily a small game designed to pass the time, especially during short breaks.

    Game Mechanics and Performance

Game controls are quite straightforward, utilizing the smartwatch’s touchscreen for interaction. While not groundbreaking, the graphics are reasonably smooth, and the controls’re feel pretty fluid. The game lacks the complexity of high-end titles but sufficiently provides a lightweight gaming experience. Overall, it’s more of a diversion rather than a full-fledged game, which kind of fits with the device’s limitations.

    Compatibility and Future Development

This particular game is compatible with several smartwatches, like the Amazfit T-Rex 3, with some versions more tailored to fit the device’s specs. The development team is actively working on improving the game, and users can even contribute suggestions. Discussions around the game include control options such as gyroscope features, indicating ongoing enhancements. Although don’t expect it to rival popular titles like Doom, it demonstrates how 3D graphics can work smoothly on less powerful hardware. Meanwhile, there are already more 2D games available in the same app store with a broader variety of options.
