Xiaomi has quietly expanded the storage options for its Redmi K Pad 2, adding a fourth configuration ahead of the device’s anticipated global release. The new variant pairs 16 GB of RAM with 256 GB of internal storage, broadening the lineup that originally launched with 8/256 GB, 12/256 GB, and 16/512 GB options.

New Configuration Joins the Lineup

The additional SKU retains the same hardware specifications that define the current model. At its core, the tablet runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 processor, a chipset that has maintained a competitive position on AnTuTu benchmark rankings since its debut. The display remains an 8.8-inch IPS panel with a 165 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness rating of 1,100 nits.

Power and Design in a Compact Frame

Xiaomi has fitted the device with a 9,100 mAh battery, which is notably large for a tablet in this size class. By comparison, the recently introduced RedMagic Astra 2 features a slightly larger 9.06-inch display but carries a smaller 8,300 mAh battery. The Redmi K Pad 2 continues to feature an all-metal chassis, dual USB-C ports, a Bose-tuned stereo speaker system, and compatibility with stylus input.

Market Positioning and Availability

The new 16/256 GB configuration will go on sale in China starting July 20, 2026. While official global launch details remain unconfirmed, the tablet is expected to arrive in international markets under the name Xiaomi Pad Mini 2. With its 8.8-inch screen, the Redmi K Pad 2 stands out as one of the more compact flagship tablets currently on the market, albeit slightly larger than the iPad mini A15.
