Along with their latest smartphones, Vivo has also launched the Pad 5e tablet and the Vivo Watch GT 2 smartwatch, and they have introduced a new set of earbuds. The Vivo TWS 5 earbuds serve as the successors to the Vivo TWS 3, which came out in 2022. Currently, these new earbuds are only available in China, and there’s no word about when they might be released globally.

Design and Features

The Vivo TWS 5 earbuds feature an angled in-ear design with a stem that sticks out. Each earbud is rated IP54 for dust and water resistance, and they come with an 11mm dynamic driver and a ceramic tungsten acoustic diaphragm, all encased in a sleek, glossy body. Vivo offers two different versions of the TWS 5 — a standard edition and a Hi-Fi version.

Both versions are fine-tuned by the Shanghai Conservatory of Music along with the Vivo Golden Ear acoustics team. They are certified for Hi-Res Audio and support LDAC. However, the Hi-Fi version comes with the added benefit of LHDC 5.0 support. Vivo mentions that they worked with MediaTek to ensure these earbuds can play lossless audio on devices powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity chipsets.

Noise Cancellation and Connectivity

Each version of the TWS 5 is equipped with four microphones per earbud, providing up to 60dB of adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC). Users can switch between three different levels of ANC. They also include AI call noise reduction which can filter out up to 99% of wind noise, plus a low-latency gaming mode at 42ms.

The TWS 5 earbuds support Spatial Audio, allow for 10 customizable EQ bands, offer live translation, and come with touch controls. They also have Adaptive Audio, which modifies playback based on the shape of the user’s ear canals.

Battery Life and Pricing

Despite using Bluetooth 5.4 LE instead of the newer Bluetooth 6.0, Vivo’s earbuds can connect to three devices simultaneously, including Apple products, which is more than many competitors that only allow two. When paired with a smartwatch, the TWS 5 will notify users of calls and messages, even reading them aloud, and will alert them if their heart rate is elevated.

The battery life for the Vivo TWS 5 and the Hi-Fi version lasts for 6 hours with ANC activated, extending to 24 hours total when using the case. With ANC turned off, the battery life can reach 12 hours, or a total of 48 hours when including the case.

The TWS 5 earbuds come in Simple White, Pure Black, and Slightly Smoky Purple, priced at CNY 399 (about $56/€48). The TWS 5 Hi-Fi Version is available in Simple White and Deep Sea Blue, and is priced higher at CNY 499 (around $70/€61).
