Nothing Phone (2a): Specifications and Price Range Leaked

It seems that Nothing, the technology startup founded by Carl Pei, is gearing up to release a more budget-friendly device to complement its flagship Phone (2). Just yesterday, a leak gave us a glimpse of the possible design of the upcoming phone. Now, thanks to tipster Yogesh Brar, we have details about the specifications and a likely price range for the upcoming Nothing Phone (2a).

    Specifications and Features

Brar shared an image of a Production Validation Unit (PVT) of the Phone (2a), showcasing both the front and back of the device. According to the tipster, the Phone (2a) will boast a 120Hz OLED display, with the device's About Phone page indicating a screen size of 6.7 inches. This promises a smooth and immersive visual experience for users.

Under the hood, the Phone (2a) will be powered by the Dimensity 7200 chipset, accompanied by 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It is worth noting that there may be other memory options available at the time of the device's launch, providing users with more flexibility in choosing the configuration that suits their needs.

One of the standout features of the Phone (2a) is its camera setup. The back of the phone will house two 50MP camera sensors, with one serving as the primary lens and the other likely being an ultrawide lens. This camera configuration is similar to that of the Phone (2), which also features a 50MP primary lens and a 50MP ultrawide lens. On the front, users can expect a 16MP camera for capturing high-quality selfies and video calls.

    Software and Design

On the software side, the Phone (2a) will run on Nothing OS 2.5, which is based on the latest version of Android, Android 14. Nothing has recently started rolling out Nothing OS 2.5 to Phone (2) users, bringing new features and improvements to the flagship device.

A sketch of the Phone (2a) has already been leaked, showcasing a distinct design compared to its larger sibling, the Phone (2). This move by Nothing is likely aimed at creating a clear differentiation between its premium and more affordable offerings. The tipster suggests that the Phone (2a) will have fewer Glyph interface elements on the back compared to the Phone (2), but the Glyph controls will remain similar. This indicates that the LED light on the back of the device will likely support app notifications and integrations.

Expected Launch Date and Price Range

According to the leak, Nothing is expected to launch the Phone (2a) at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). With Nothing's event scheduled for February 27, it is highly likely that this will be the official launch date for the phone. As for the price, the Nothing Phone (2a) is expected to carry a price tag of around $400, making it a more affordable option for consumers.

In conclusion, the leaked specifications and price range for the upcoming Nothing Phone (2a) suggest that it will be a compelling choice for budget-conscious consumers who still want to enjoy a feature-rich smartphone experience. With its impressive display, powerful chipset, and versatile camera setup, the Phone (2a) aims to provide a premium-like experience at a more accessible price point.

  • OnePlus 12 Reviewed: The OnePlus Phone with the Least Drawbacks

OnePlus 12 Reviewed: The OnePlus Phone with the Least Drawbacks

This year marks the 10th anniversary of OnePlus, and they have put all their efforts into creating their latest phone, the OnePlus 12. As someone who has reviewed many OnePlus phones, I can confidently say that the OnePlus 12 is the best OnePlus phone to buy in the past two years. I’m glad to see OnePlus back in action.

    Design

The camera module design on the OnePlus 12 may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but personally, I find it unremarkable. When I first laid eyes on the phone, I immediately recognized it as a new OnePlus release.

Some early adopters have reported a gap between the camera module and the back cover on their OnePlus 12. However, we did not encounter this issue with our unit. OnePlus CEO has addressed this concern, stating that it does not affect the phone’s waterproofing. Future phones will have this area filled with glue, so it should not be a significant problem.

Speaking of waterproofing, it is disappointing that the OnePlus 12 only supports IP65. As a flagship phone, it would have been preferable for it to have an IP68 rating. This decision is quite perplexing.

Fortunately, IP65 seems to be the only weakness of the OnePlus 12. The fingerprint area is conveniently placed, USB 3.0 makes a comeback, and the alert slider is still present. Additionally, the vibration motor is one of the best among Android phones. Overall, unless you are someone who frequently exposes their phone to water, the OnePlus 12 is an excellent choice.

    Display

While the screen on the OnePlus 11 was decent, it was not particularly eye-friendly. The OnePlus 12 addresses this issue and does an excellent job of displaying and protecting your eyes simultaneously. Furthermore, the 4500nit peak brightness is impressive, and the full-screen brightness surpasses that of other phones.

The ability to adjust the color temperature in the Display Setting provides more freedom, and a feature similar to True Tone is also available. The viewing angle of the panel is slightly inferior to TCL’s C8 but far superior to the Samsung E6.

As an LTPO screen, the OnePlus 12 offers 2160Hz PWM dimming at low brightness and 360Hz DC-like dimming at high brightness. The black stripes on the OnePlus 12 are noticeably thinner, indicating better flicker control. If you value both display quality and eye protection, the OnePlus 12 is the ideal choice.

    Benchmark & Gaming

The OnePlus 12 is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, which is familiar to many of us. It is unnecessary to delve into the details as the scores speak for themselves. It is worth noting that the OnePlus 12 does not seem to prioritize aggressive performance, as it starts downclocking in the fourth minute of the CPU Throttling Test and downclocks twice.

However, in gaming scenarios, the OnePlus 12 will allow you to play continuously for 20 minutes before downclocking, which is normal for non-gaming phones. The frame rate is locked at 50fps, so if you are a dedicated gamer, you may want to consider a dedicated gaming phone for extended gaming sessions.

    Camera

All three cameras on the OnePlus 12 are impressive, with none of the sensors being small in size. While they may not have the massive 1-inch sensors found in phones like the X100 Pro, they still capture decent photos.

It is difficult to provide a detailed breakdown of the pros and cons of the OnePlus 12 cameras without a proper comparison. Therefore, we will be creating a video comparing the OnePlus 12 to the realme GT5 Pro. In that video, you will find all the information you need to know about the OnePlus 12 cameras. Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel.

    Battery & Charging

The wired charging power of the OnePlus 12 remains unchanged at 100W, allowing for a full charge in just 23 minutes. However, the biggest surprise is the addition of wireless charging, which operates at 50W. Furthermore, the OnePlus 12 boasts impressive battery life. Compared to the K70 Pro, which also has a 2K screen, the OnePlus 12’s 400mAh larger capacity gives it a significant advantage. Well done, OnePlus.

    Conclusion

Upon reflection, the OnePlus 12 stands out as a OnePlus phone with minimal flaws. Apart from the camera design and the IP65 rating, which may not concern many users, it is challenging to find any other faults. Furthermore, its price is relatively affordable compared to other flagship phones.

While I hesitate to dub the OnePlus 12 as the new flagship killer of the year due to the realme GT5 Pro, it remains an incredibly worthwhile phone that is almost perfect. I hope you enjoy OnePlus’ 10th-anniversary gift to its fans.

Nothing to Showcase at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024

Nothing, the technology company founded by Carl Pei, has already begun sending out invitations for their participation in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) scheduled for February 26-29, 2024. This comes as no surprise as Nothing has used MWC in the past to generate excitement around their phones.

    Building Anticipation at MWC

In 2022, Carl Pei showcased the Phone (1) at MWC, while in 2023, Nothing announced their partnership with Qualcomm for Phone (2) during the event. Given this history, it is highly likely that Nothing will provide hints about their upcoming device at MWC 2024. These hints could come directly from the team or even from Carl Pei himself.

    Cryptic Invitation

The latest invite poster from Nothing for MWC 2024 simply says "save the date" for February 27, accompanied by the cryptic message "Nothing to see." While it may seem vague, it is widely believed to be a clear hint about a new phone. However, specific details about the device are still unknown.

    Rumored Nothing Phone (2a)

Certifications have confirmed that Nothing is indeed working on a new smartphone. Rumors suggest that this device could be called the Nothing Phone (2a). It has already undergone certain certifications and is expected to launch in India under the model number AIN142.

    Potential Specifications

According to leaks, the Nothing Phone (2a) is rumored to feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with a centered punch-hole for selfies. An image leak even shows the familiar Glyph interface glowing on the back of the phone. However, further details about the device, including whether it will be Phone (3) or the rumored Phone (2a), remain undisclosed.

    Anticipation Building

Compared to last year, when Nothing began teasing the Phone (2) around this time, there has been radio silence so far. However, leaks tend to intensify as launch dates draw closer. Therefore, it is possible that we are just days or weeks away from more information about this upcoming Nothing phone, regardless of its official name.

  • All About the OnePlus 12: Design, Specifications, Performance, and What We Know

All About the OnePlus 12: Design, Specifications, Performance, and What We Know

After much anticipation, OnePlus is set to introduce its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 12, following the success of the well-received OnePlus 11. With high expectations surrounding the upcoming release, here’s a comprehensive overview of everything you should know about the OnePlus 12 ahead of its scheduled launch in China on December 5.

    Design & display

OnePlus is opting for a relatively straightforward approach without introducing significant alterations to the current design. The phone retains its quad-cutout circular camera module, albeit with notable internal detailing. The brand indicates drawing inspiration from classic timepieces, evident in the grooves encircling the camera module, resembling minute lines on a clock. The power button and volume rockers are still on the left side, and the right side features the power button and an alert slider.

The brand has unveiled three color options through official teasers, namely Blank (white), Green, and Rock Black. In addition to that, a recent leak claimed that the phone could come with a wood texture back, paying homage to the OG OnePlus One Walnut Wood Edition.

On the front, the phone will showcase a large 6.82-inch BOE AMOLED Display, boasting a resolution of 3168 x 1440 pixels and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The 2K+ display gently curves towards the edges, incorporating advanced features like 2160Hz PWM dimming and a pixel density of 510, facilitated by a diamond-shaped pixel arrangement.

According to the brand, the phone achieves an impressive maximum brightness of 4500 nits, surpassing the current flagship standard ranging between 2400-2600 nits. Oppo’s Display P1 chip is integrated into the device, promising enhanced quality and efficiency for an optimized viewing experience. A teaser also talks about a new in-screen fingerprint scanner which is slimmer and more responsive than previous iterations. Lastly, the phone’s display will feature OnePlus’s Rain Water Touch feature which eliminates ghost touches and false touches.

    Performance & specs

The OnePlus 12 will be powered by the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip out of the Qualcomm camp. The processor comes with some noteworthy improvements to its performance thanks to the new chip structure and a peak clock speed of 3.3GHz. It also has a new Adreno 750 GPU onboard that helps improve graphics performance.

The brand has shared an insane AnTuTu benchmark score of 2,333,033 points which will put it in contention for the best-performance smartphones. However, sustained performance is usually the key, and for that, the brand plans to incorporate a massive 9140mm² vapor chamber cooling system. Overall, the cooling system will cover a vast 38,547mm² area, making sure that the high-power chip can sustain its performance without throttling.

The phone will be available in multiple LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage configurations including a 24GB + 1TB option. The battery will be getting a boost in capacity, bumping it up to 5,400mAh. 3C certification has revealed 100W wired and 50W wireless charging support. There will also be a new vibration motor onboard which the brand is calling the “Bionic Vibration Motor Turbo”. It claims to be 18% more powerful and 60% faster. As for software, the phone will debut with Android 14-based ColorOS 14 (OxygenOS 14 in the global market).

    Camera

Camera is another department that’s getting major upgrades. Moving on from the IMX890 sensor of the OnePlus 11, the OnePlus 12 will debut with the shiny new 50MP Sony Lytia dual-layer stacked camera sensor. This sensor is said to be a collaboration between OnePlus and Sony, however, other reports have mentioned that the device will feature a 50MP Sony LYT-T808 sensor with an aperture of f/1.6 and a focal length of 23mm. One thing is for sure users can expect some significant improvements over last year’s camera.

Other than the primary sensor, the phone will feature a 48-megapixel Sony IMX581 ultra-wide lens with an aperture of f/2.2 and a focal length of 14mm and a 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B periscope telephoto camera, with aperture of f/2.6 and a focal length of 70mm, enabling 3x optical zoom.

    Global availability

While the China launch is happening on December 5, customers outside of China will have to wait a bit more. A recent report has mentioned that the OnePlus 12 will start its global journey with its launch in India on January 23. Stay tuned for our coverage of the OnePlus 12 launch on December 5. In the meantime, you can check out our ColorOS 14 review, which is the operating system onboard the OnePlus 12.
