Recent news has shown that Oppo is developing the Find X8 Mini, which is a small flagship phone intended for the Chinese market. Additionally, a leak from the tipster Digital Chat Station has suggested that OnePlus, a brand related to Oppo, is also working on a compact flagship phone aimed at China. Will these two devices compete against each other? DCS thinks there won't be any issues since the two phones will have one key distinction.
OnePlus Compact Phone Will Use Snapdragon 8 Elite
DCS has shared some information about OnePlus' new compact phone. The device is said to come with a 6.31-inch flat OLED display offering a resolution of 1.5K and will run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. There is still no confirmation on whether it will belong to the number series, like the OnePlus 13, or the Ace lineup. Regarding the Ace series, the company is likely to introduce the Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro, which will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 8 Elite chips, respectively, in December this year.
Launch Timing for the OnePlus Compact Phone
When a user on Weibo questioned DCS about a possible competition between OnePlus’ compact phone and the Find X8 Mini, DCS assured that there would be no issues since the two devices would be powered by different chipsets. Currently, there's no information available regarding what chipset the Find X8 Mini will use. If the OnePlus compact phone is indeed equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, it’s possible that the Find X8 Mini could feature the Dimensity 9400, similar to the Find X8 and X8 Pro models.
The OnePlus compact phone is anticipated to launch in the second quarter of 2025 in China. On the other hand, the Find X8 Mini might be unveiled alongside the Find X8 Ultra, which is expected to debut in the first quarter of 2025 in its home market.
