OnePlus has recently hopped on the AI trend by introducing a new feature known as AI Eraser for its smartphones. This announcement also hints at the development of additional AI-driven functionalities that are expected to debut later this year. While Google and Samsung have been pioneers in offering generative AI capabilities on their flagship Pixel and Galaxy devices, Apple is rumored to incorporate GenAI into the upcoming iOS 18 in June.
OnePlus Unveils AI Eraser Feature for Smartphone Photography
The AI Eraser feature, as implied by its name, simplifies the process of eliminating undesired elements from photos effortlessly. This mirrors Google's Magic Eraser, initially introduced with the Pixel 6 series in 2021, and Samsung's comparable offering within the Galaxy AI suite available on the Galaxy S24 series and other compatible devices.
OnePlus emphasizes that its AI Eraser leverages its proprietary large language model for operation. The company provides a demonstration of how the feature functions within the OnePlus Photos gallery app. Users can edit their photos by selecting unwanted elements such as people, objects, or imperfections, prompting the AI to analyze and intelligently replace the selected area to seamlessly integrate with the original scene.
Rollout and Compatibility of OnePlus AI Eraser
The AI Eraser feature will be gradually rolled out starting this month to a range of OnePlus models including the OnePlus 12, OnePlus 12R, OnePlus 11, OnePlus Open, and OnePlus Nord CE 4. The specific delivery method for this feature, whether through an OxygenOS update or an update to the OnePlus Photos app, is yet to be disclosed.
