OnePlus Phone Gets BeaconLink Feature for Calls Without Signal

OnePlus has unveiled the latest OxygenOS 15.0.0.500 specifically for the OnePlus 12R. This new software version will be accessible in regions such as IN, EU, GLO, and NA. Users must already be operating OxygenOS 15 to install this update; those still on OxygenOS 14 cannot upgrade directly. While the changelog might not be very long, it does include some significant improvements.

    New Features Included

Among the new features, there are two standout additions: BeaconLink and Touch to Share. With BeaconLink, users can make calls without needing a cellular or Wi-Fi connection. However, it’s important to note that both users must have compatible phones to utilize this feature. Official sources state that the connection range is less than 500 m (1,640 ft), making it handy in situations where mobile networks are congested, like busy events. This functionality is not limited to OnePlus devices, as it is also available on select Oppo smartphones.

    Enhancements and Security Updates

The second key feature listed in the changelog is Touch to Share, which enables the OnePlus 12R to transfer files and photos to iOS devices. The company has also announced improvements to system stability to enhance the overall user experience. Additionally, the update includes the January 2025 Android security patch to bolster defenses against potential threats.

For those curious about the OnePlus 12R, you can refer to our review from last year. This 5G smartphone, which includes a Hasselblad camera system, is available for purchase from OnePlus for approximately $600.

  • What to Expect from OnePlus 13R: Features and Release Date

What to Expect from OnePlus 13R: Features and Release Date

As OnePlus prepares to unveil the OnePlus 13, there is growing interest in the OnePlus 13R. Following the successful launch of the OnePlus 12R, which was a rebranded OnePlus Ace 3, the upcoming 13R is expected to follow a similar approach. With various certifications and leaks appearing, the 13R is likely to serve as the global version of the anticipated OnePlus Ace 5. This piece delves into the potential features, specifications, and release date of the OnePlus 13R.

    Design and Build

OnePlus has consistently aimed for a sleek and premium aesthetic in its ‘R’ series, and the OnePlus 13R is believed to keep this design standard. The device may preserve the minimalist and refined look found in the OnePlus 12R, with slight modifications for better ergonomics. It is expected to have a flat display, narrow bezels, flat metal frames, and a slim body, making it comfortable to hold while enhancing overall appearance.

    Display

The OnePlus 13R is anticipated to feature a 1.5K resolution display, similar to its predecessor. It’s probable that an OLED panel, supplied by BOE, will be utilized, known for its vivid colors, deep blacks, and high brightness. Although screen size details are still unknown, it could fall between 6.7 to 6.8 inches, offering an immersive experience for gaming and media consumption. The phone may also support a high refresh rate, possibly reaching up to 120Hz with LTPO technology.

    Performance

In terms of performance, the OnePlus 13R is set to impress. It’s likely to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, a notable upgrade from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 found in the OnePlus 12R. This would position the 13R as one of the few devices in its category to feature this elite processor, promising enhanced performance, better multitasking, and a smoother gaming experience. The chipset might be coupled with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, ensuring smooth operation for demanding apps and games.

    Cameras

Regarding the camera setup, the 13R is rumored to include a primary 50MP Sony IMX9-series sensor along with two additional lenses. The larger sensor size of the IMX906 (1/1.56 inches) is expected to enhance image processing and low-light performance. While it’s unclear if this device will include a telephoto lens, the Chinese Pro variant, Ace 5 Pro, is rumored to feature a Samsung JN1 telephoto sensor.

    Battery and Charging

Battery endurance has been a strong selling point for the OnePlus R series, and the OnePlus 13R is likely to exceed expectations with a 6,500mAh battery. This would become the largest battery ever in a OnePlus smartphone, surpassing the 5,500mAh capacity found in the 12R. Furthermore, the device is expected to support 100W SuperVOOC fast charging, ensuring quick recharge times.

    Software

The OnePlus 13R is predicted to run on OxygenOS 15, based on Android 15. OxygenOS has been recognized for its clean, smooth, and bloat-free interface. Users can anticipate new software features, enhanced customization options, and improved performance optimizations in this latest version.

    Pricing and Availability

While pricing information has yet to be confirmed, the OnePlus 13R is likely to be positioned as a budget-friendly flagship, akin to the OnePlus 12R. It could be priced between $500 and $600, making it competitive among mid-range phones with premium features. The launch is expected to follow the China release of the OnePlus Ace 5, possibly occurring early next year. The 13R might first debut in the Indian market before a wider global release.

The OnePlus 13R seems to be an appealing upgrade, especially for those in search of flagship-level performance at a reasonable cost. With a faster chipset, an enhanced camera system, a bigger battery, and a refined design, this device could set a new standard in the mid-range market. If the leaks are accurate, the OnePlus 13R could provide tremendous value, continuing the brand’s tradition of affordable flagship smartphones.

While its 6.1-inch screen is slightly smaller, it still offers AMOLED technology with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. The OnePlus 11 remains a strong contender even a year after its release. Its larger screen and higher pixel density offer a superior viewing experience. Both the OnePlus 11 and Xiaomi 14 Civi support HDR10+ and a 120Hz refresh rate, but Xiaomi’s higher peak brightness provides better outdoor visibility.

The OnePlus 11’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset surpasses the Xiaomi’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, particularly in GPU performance, making it a better choice for gaming. The OnePlus 11 also offers UFS 4.0 storage in higher models, which enhances performance.

The camera setup on the OnePlus 11 is similar to Xiaomi’s but includes Hasselblad color tuning for better photos. The device supports 8K video recording, unlike the Xiaomi 14 Civi, which maxes out at 4K. The OnePlus 11’s 5,000 mAh battery supports 100W fast charging, making it superior in battery performance.
