Galaxy S26 Series Expected to Use Silicon-Carbon Battery Technology

Consumer electronics have been relying on lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries for more than ten years. Recently, Chinese smartphone manufacturers have adopted a new battery technology: the silicon-carbon anode battery. This innovation has allowed foldable phones to become as slim as traditional bar phones when closed, and bar phones to shrink back to 6.3 inches, all while holding larger batteries than the 6.8-inch Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Samsung’s Upcoming Changes

There are rumors that Samsung will begin using this new battery technology with the Galaxy S26 series next year. For those who may not be aware, silicon anode batteries have a significantly higher energy density than the conventional Li-ion batteries that smartphone makers have traditionally employed. This boost in energy density enables manufacturers to create sleeker designs without compromising battery life.

Previously, it was suggested that Samsung was developing a different battery technology known as “Stacked Battery Technology,” which could enhance energy density by 10%. By implementing this stacking method, energy density might rise by more than 10%. For instance, a battery with a capacity of 5,000mAh in the latest Galaxy S Ultra could potentially increase to over 5,500mAh with stacking. However, it appears that Samsung has opted for the silicon-carbon battery technology instead.

Battery Capacity for Galaxy S25 Slim

If you’re curious, there’s no confirmation about the use of this technology in the upcoming Galaxy S25 Slim. A recent report indicates that both the S25 Slim and Apple’s iPhone 17 Air will have batteries with a capacity ranging from 3000 mAh to 4000 mAh. Currently, Samsung’s Ultra flagship boasts an impressive battery life, thanks to its 5000mAh capacity. It will be intriguing to see how much the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s battery capacity and life improves with the new silicon-carbon anode battery technology.

That said, the Galaxy S25 series is rumored to maintain the same battery capacity as the previous models. Nevertheless, the more efficient Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset is expected to provide a slight enhancement in battery life compared to last year’s devices.
