Vivo Y36: A New 5G Variant with Downgraded Specs
Vivo recently launched a new smartphone in China under the name Vivo Y36. While the original Vivo Y36 was available in both 4G and 5G variants, the Chinese version is exclusively a 5G smartphone with some notable downgrades in terms of specifications. Let's take a closer look at what this new device has to offer.
Design and Display
The Vivo Y36 (China) features a rectangular camera island with circular cameras, similar to its predecessor. However, there is a slight change in the design as the LED flashlight is now positioned below the cameras instead of on the right side. In terms of the display, the Chinese variant comes with a smaller 6.56-inch screen compared to the 6.64-inch display of the global Vivo Y36 5G. The panel also sports a dewdrop notch instead of a centered punch hole.
Specifications
While the display size has been reduced, the Vivo Y36 (China) still offers a smooth user experience with its 90Hz refresh rate. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chip (previously known as Dimensity 700) and is equipped with LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage.
In terms of camera specifications, the Chinese variant sees a downgrade. The main and selfie cameras are now 13MP and 5MP sensors respectively, compared to the 50MP and 16MP sensors found on the global model. However, the 2MP depth sensor remains the same.
Other features of the Vivo Y36 (China) include a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and the latest Android 13 operating system. The device is backed by a 5,000mAh battery, but the charging speed has been reduced to 15W from the previous 44W.
Pricing and Availability
The Vivo Y36 (China) is available in five memory configurations, each with varying storage capacities. Here are the pricing details for each variant:
- 6GB + 128GB: ¥1,399 (~$195)
- 8GB + 128GB: ¥1,599 (~$220)

In conclusion, the Vivo Y36 (China) offers a 5G experience with some downgraded specifications compared to its global counterpart. However, it still packs some impressive features, including a high refresh rate display and a powerful processor. With its competitive pricing, the Vivo Y36 (China) aims to cater to the needs of smartphone users in the Chinese market.
