Apple AirPods Pro May Soon Track Heart Rate and Temperature

Apple has some exciting products on the horizon. Among these, a new smart doorbell with Face ID technology is being reported. However, the upcoming AirPods Pro could steal the spotlight with their new health monitoring capabilities.

AirPods Pro Set to Become Health Monitors

As per Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, the Cupertino-based tech giant is set to introduce remarkable health tracking features in its next-generation AirPods Pro. The new premium true wireless earbuds from Apple might soon become more advanced. While the Apple Watch already includes various health sensors, the AirPods Pro are on their way to catching up. Speculations suggest that these earbuds will soon be equipped with sensors for tracking heart rate and mapping body temperature.

New Features for AirPods Pro 2

The iPhone manufacturer has been prioritizing health tracking in its wearable devices, and the AirPods Pro appear to be included in this trend. While heart rate and temperature monitoring seem practical, Apple may have some more unconventional plans for the AirPods Pro. Reports indicate that they are reconsidering the idea of incorporating a camera into the earbuds. While there have been rumors about cameras in hearables before, the company seems to be taking this concept more seriously now, according to Gurman.

Nevertheless, these camera features are probably much farther from an official launch compared to the heart rate and temperature tracking capabilities. With the integration of Apple’s Artificial Intelligence, it’s likely that AI is also a focal point for this product line. Gurman mentions that the next-generation AirPods Pro are still in the early stages of development, but they might debut along with these new features. This is everything we have for now, so stay tuned for more updates.

  • Garmin Fixes Forerunner Touchscreen Issues with Latest Update

Garmin Fixes Forerunner Touchscreen Issues with Latest Update

Garmin is known for updating its smartwatches more often than its competitors, but these updates sometimes come with problems, even with a public beta program in place. Recently, this was the case with Software Version 21.19, which Garmin began releasing to several smartwatches at the beginning of the month.

    Update Issues

Reports indicate that the update caused touchscreen issues during activities for nearly all smartwatches except for the Forerunner 255 (curr. $284 on Amazon). Interestingly, the changelog for Software Version 21.20 shows that its previous version also had a bug that made the Connect IQ watch face crash on the Forerunner 255. This issue affects all the other Forerunner models mentioned as well.

    Improvements Made

Furthermore, the touchscreen settings are now supposed to be "respected" on the Forerunner 165, Forerunner 265, Forerunner 955, and Forerunner 965. Additionally, the last two models have fixed a different bug that stopped distance updates during golf activities. Sadly, it is still unclear when a new update focused on features will be made available. For further information, check out the forum posts linked below.

  • OnePlus Watch 3 Render and Specs Leak: ECG Monitoring Included

OnePlus Watch 3 Render and Specs Leak: ECG Monitoring Included

OnePlus is preparing to unveil the OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R smartphones on January 7, along with a fresh color option for the OnePlus Buds 3 Pro. Furthermore, there are indications that the company is working on a new smartwatch. According to a unique report from Smartprix, the OnePlus Watch 3 is expected to be released globally in the first quarter of 2025. This smartwatch aims to offer a more practical and feature-rich experience to enhance its standing in the crowded wearables market.

    Design and Features

A visual shared with the report indicates that the OnePlus Watch 3 maintains the stylish look of its predecessor while adding a significant new element: a rotary dial. Similar to the Digital Crown found on Apple devices, this feature enhances navigation, particularly in situations where using the touchscreen is not possible, such as when hands are wet. It will also include ECG capabilities, improving the health tracking features of the Watch 3, making it a contender against high-end models like the Samsung Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch. However, health certifications in specific markets may restrict its availability.

    Connectivity and Performance

Another impressive aspect of the Watch 3 might be its LTE connectivity, which would allow it to function without a smartphone. This means users could make calls, get notifications, and stream music independently. Yet, it’s possible that this feature will be initially limited to select markets, with China likely being the first to receive it.

The report further mentions that the Watch 3 could be equipped with a robust Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor, along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Initially, it was said to have a 500mAh battery, but an earlier FCC certification indicated it might have a larger 631mAh battery. Like its predecessor, the device will operate on a dual OS configuration of WearOS and RTOS.

    Size and Launch Expectations

The previous FCC filing also stated that the OnePlus Watch 3, identified by the model number OPWWE251, will measure 46.6 x 47.6 x 11.75mm, making it a bit bigger than last year’s version. Since it has received FCC certification, we can anticipate a global launch in the near future. More information is likely to surface in the upcoming days, so keep an eye out for updates.

  • Huawei Surpasses Apple to Lead Global Smartwatch Market

Huawei Surpasses Apple to Lead Global Smartwatch Market

Apple has held a strong position in the smartwatch market for an extended time. However, the tech giant from Cupertino has recently lost its top spot. In an unexpected twist, Huawei has now become the largest smartwatch manufacturer globally. Here’s what we know at this point.

    Huawei Takes the Lead

Despite Apple’s long-standing success with its high-end Apple Watch series, the company has fallen behind Huawei. A report from IDC indicates that the Chinese company outperformed Apple from the first to the third quarter of 2024. Huawei achieved a market share of 16.9 percent during these 9 months, shipping 23.6 million smartwatches, which is higher than Apple’s 22.5 million shipments. Apple held a market share of 16.2 percent in the smartwatch industry.

    Growth in the Chinese Market

The smartwatch market in China experienced a significant year-on-year growth of 23.3 percent, while countries like India and the US faced declines in the same timeframe. Over the three quarters, Huawei showcased a remarkable 44.3 percent year-on-year growth, driven by popular models like the Watch GT5, Watch GT5 Pro, and Watch D2. In contrast, Apple suffered a year-on-year drop of 12.8 percent during this same period.

    Competition in the Tech World

Xiaomi secured the third position in smartwatch sales, while Samsung and BBK followed in the fourth and fifth spots respectively. This development comes right after we reported on trends in the Chinese smartphone market. Although Apple was surpassed in smartwatches, it still managed to outshine Huawei in its home market for smartphones, leading Q3 2024 sales with Huawei as its only domestic competitor.
