HMD Skyline Revives Iconic Nokia Lumia 920 Design

HMD Global, the company responsible for Nokia smartphones, appears to be tapping into nostalgia once again. Just last month, they reintroduced the 90s classic Nokia 3210 with modern updates. Now, it seems they’re doing it again with another device.

We’ve previously heard rumors about a device called the Skyline. Recently, the first renders for the HMD Skyline were shared on X by user @smashx_60.

    Design and Display

The renders display a phone that echoes the Fabula design language initially seen with the Nokia N9. The bright yellow color scheme is particularly reminiscent of the iconic Nokia Lumia 920.

Though the design evokes memories, the specifications are quite contemporary. According to earlier reports, Skyline will feature a modern FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The device is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC, a solid mid-range processor.

    Camera and Battery

On the rear, the Skyline will boast a triple-camera setup, including a 108MP main sensor, an ultrawide lens, and a macro or depth sensor. For selfies, there will be a 32MP front-facing camera.

The phone will come equipped with a substantial 4,900mAh battery supporting 33W fast charging. Additionally, it will have an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.

    Features and Pricing

Modern features like an under-display fingerprint sensor and stereo speakers are also expected. The software will likely be covered by Android 14, the latest version of Google’s mobile OS.

The HMD Skyline is anticipated to be priced at €520 for the variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, and it is expected to launch sometime in July.

  • Huawei Overtakes Apple in China’s High-End Smartphone Market

Huawei Overtakes Apple in China’s High-End Smartphone Market

The dust is settling on China’s massive 618 shopping festival, and a new trend is clear: domestic smartphone makers are taking a commanding lead in the high-end market.

According to JD.com’s “Smartphone Racing Ranking,” an impressive seven out of the top ten best-selling models priced above 6000 yuan (roughly $828) during 618 were from Chinese manufacturers, with Huawei boasting the most entries.

Domestic Brands Dominate: Huawei Leads Over Apple in High-End Smartphone Sales

This marks a significant shift for the Chinese market, which has traditionally seen Apple hold strong in the premium segment. While Apple still secured three spots in the top ten with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Plus, Huawei stole the show with five entries: the Pura 70 series (including the Pro, Pro+, and Ultra variants) and the Mate 60 Pro. Vivo also managed to grab two spots with their foldable X Fold 3 and the X100 Ultra.

Huawei‘s dominance extends beyond just the number of models. Their flagship Mate60 Pro, launched last August, has reportedly held its resale value remarkably well. Despite a starting price of 6499 yuan ($896) through the Pioneer Program, the phone has only seen a minor price decrease on e-commerce platforms, showcasing strong consumer confidence in Huawei’s high-end offerings.

    Factors Behind the Shift

This trend can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, domestic manufacturers like Huawei have made significant strides in innovation, offering feature-packed phones that rival or even surpass Apple in certain aspects.

Secondly, aggressive pricing strategies, particularly during sales periods like 618, have made these high-end devices more accessible to domestic consumers. Finally, with ongoing political tensions between China and the US, some consumers might be shifting their preferences towards homegrown brands.

Apple, however, is not out of the race entirely. Their decision to lower prices, with the iPhone 15 starting at 4599 yuan ($634), helped them maintain a presence in the high-end segment.

A Wider Range of Options for Consumers

With Huawei leading the charge and other brands like Vivo showing strong potential, consumers now have a wider range of compelling options to choose from when it comes to ultra-high-end smartphones. This not only puts pressure on Apple to remain competitive but also signifies a potential turning point in the global smartphone landscape.

  • Xiaomi’s New 25000mAh Power Bank: Fast Charging Up to 212W

Xiaomi’s New 25000mAh Power Bank: Fast Charging Up to 212W

Xiaomi is preparing to introduce a new power bank that boasts a striking design and enough capacity to keep your gadgets running for days. Recent images leaked by a Weibo tipster reveal the power bank’s see-through front panel, showcasing its internal components.

    Design and Specs

The aesthetic is reminiscent of the CUKTECH 20 power bank from Xiaomi’s subsidiary, CUKTECH. The leaked specifications of Xiaomi’s new charger are also similar to those of the CUKTECH 20. Both feature a 25,000mAh battery, three ports (two USB-C and one USB-A), and a front color display.

However, Xiaomi’s model might offer a slight enhancement in power delivery, supporting up to 212W fast charging, compared to the 210W of the CUKTECH 20.

    Power Delivery Breakdown

Details about the capabilities of each port have emerged. The first USB-C port can output up to 140W, the second USB-C port delivers 45W, and the USB-A port supports up to 120W fast charging. This level of power should be sufficient to charge even large devices like the MacBook Pro 16.

Additionally, one of the leaked images mentions a 90.08 Wh rating, ensuring the power bank adheres to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations, making it suitable for travel.

    Pricing and Availability

While pricing and release details remain undisclosed, the CUKTECH 20, which is available for $129.99, might serve as a useful reference. Xiaomi’s power bank is likely to be priced similarly when it becomes available globally.

This leak indicates that Xiaomi’s upcoming power bank will be both powerful and uniquely designed, featuring a high capacity, multiple ports, and robust fast-charging capabilities.

  • Poco F6: AI-Powered Enhancements for Gaming and Photography

Poco F6: AI-Powered Enhancements for Gaming and Photography

These days, smartphone brands are keen on showcasing their devices' AI-driven functionalities. Realme recently announced that the Realme GT 6, set to launch on June 20, will include AI features like AI Smart Loop, AI Smart Removal, and AI Night Vision. Launched last month, the Poco F6—sporting the same Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip as the GT 6—boasts a suite of AI-driven features. Here's an overview of the AI enhancements on the F6 that elevate both gaming and photography experiences.

Poco F6 and its AI-driven features

    Poco F6

The Poco F6 is the first in the Poco lineup to offer AI Gesture Control, providing a hands-free entertainment experience. This feature allows users to navigate apps like Netflix using air gestures, eliminating the need to touch the screen. Future OTA updates are expected to further enhance this functionality.

Poco F6’s Wildboost 3.0 mode uses AI to optimize gaming sessions by reducing lag and improving graphics. The device’s AI network and connectivity enhancements ensure optimal network performance by minimizing latency, accelerating downloads, and enabling quick recovery from network disruptions. These improvements are essential for a smooth online experience, particularly during gaming.

For photography enthusiasts, the AI Image Expansion feature automatically extends the background of images, enhancing composition and framing without the need for extensive manual editing. The AI Eraser Pro feature further refines photo editing by detecting and removing unwanted elements from images, filling in gaps with matching background details. The AI Bokeh feature lends a professional touch to portrait photography by creating a pleasing background blur that emphasizes the subject. This effect can also be applied to existing images in the gallery.

The Poco F6 is also equipped with the AI Noise Cancellation feature, which filters out ambient noise to ensure clear voice calls, recordings, and media playback. This feature is particularly useful in noisy environments, making conversations and media consumption more enjoyable. • Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim: Higher Price Than Regular Fold, No S Pen

Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim: Higher Price Than Regular Fold, No S Pen

We’ve been hearing rumors about a new addition to Samsung’s foldable lineup, but the name—whether it will be Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim or Ultra—remains uncertain. A typically reliable leaker, Ice Universe, seems to have provided some clarity on the topic.

The tipster revealed on Weibo that Samsung is developing a Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim, not an "Ultra" variant. The Weibo post translates to "It’s not called Ultra because it’s not Ultra, it’s just thin." This implies that the Fold 6 Slim won’t offer upgraded specs compared to the standard Fold 6. Instead, it seems to be a thinner version aimed primarily at enhancing portability.

    No Upgrades, No Downgrades

Ice Universe supported this claim while responding to a user’s comment about the Slim’s configuration. The tipster clarified that there won’t be a downgrade, but there won’t be any upgrades either.

The trade-off for a slimmer design appears to be the lack of S Pen support. Ice Universe confirmed, while replying to another user’s comment, that the Fold 6 Slim won’t be compatible with the S Pen. Apparently, Samsung is making the foldable thinner by removing the digitizer needed for pen input, which means no S Pen for this model.

    Higher Price Point

Perhaps most surprisingly, even without any upgrades or S Pen support, Ice Universe suggests the Fold 6 Slim will be priced higher than the standard Fold 6.

Samsung has yet to officially confirm the Galaxy Z Fold 6 or Flip 6, but these devices are likely to be launched at the Unpacked event rumored for July 10.

    Future Launch Plans

According to a previous report, the Fold 6 Slim will not be part of this launch event. Instead, Samsung plans to release the slimmer Z Fold 6 alongside the Galaxy S25 series in early 2025. The rumored Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE and Z Flip 6 FE are also in development, targeting a more affordable foldable market.

Oppo Reno 12 Series Unveiled for Global Market, Launch Soon

Last month, Oppo introduced the Reno 12 and 12 Pro, featuring the Dimensity 8250 and Dimensity 9200+ chipsets, respectively. The brand has now confirmed that it will launch the Reno 12 series globally later this month. Recently, the first teasers for the global market were released, revealing the design of the new Reno phones.

    Oppo Reno 12 Series Teased

Oppo Europe and Global’s X handles have started teasing the Reno 12 series. The official community platform is also running a contest to select a product ambassador for the lineup, accepting applications until June 30. This hints that the global launch might take place on or after this date. However, since there is no official confirmation of the launch date, it’s best to await the formal announcement.

To recap, the Reno 11 and 11 Pro were unveiled earlier this year. Both models featured a front curved-edge display and a vertical pill-shaped camera module on the back panel, housing three cameras and an LED flash. While the front design of the Reno 12 series is still under wraps, the rear camera module appears to be less prominent compared to previous generations.
