Motorola is preparing to introduce the Moto G17, which will be the follow-up to the Moto G15, an entry-level smartphone released in December 2024. Although the Moto G17 has not been officially announced yet, a listing from a retailer has provided some early information about this budget-friendly device.

    Specs Confirmation

Interestingly, Motorola has confirmed one major specification on their support site. An official FAQ page dedicated to the Moto G17 indicates that the smartphone includes a microSD card slot, which can support memory cards of up to 1 TB. Additionally, the page mentions that there will be a G17 Power model available alongside the standard version, although specific details about the Power variant remain unknown.

    Retailer Insights

According to the retailer listing, the Moto G17 will come in two different color options. One of these models is expected to offer 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. • 5G vs 4G: What You Miss with a 4G Smartphone

5G vs 4G: What You Miss with a 4G Smartphone

    Key Takeaways

    1. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 4G is a budget-friendly smartphone that does not support 5G connectivity.
    2. In daily usage, the lack of 5G is not immediately noticeable, with 4G still providing decent coverage.
    3. Theoretical speeds of 5G are much higher than real-world speeds, with users typically experiencing around 100 Mbit/s.
    4. 5G technology offers benefits like lower latency and better performance in crowded areas but may not show significant advantages in everyday use.
    5. The Redmi Note 15 4G is a reliable choice for budget-conscious users, featuring a long-lasting battery and security updates, despite the performance gap compared to 5G devices.

In 2019, mobile networks began adopting the new 5G technology, and since then, high-end smartphones have integrated this latest mobile technology. However, with many LTE networks being branded as 5G and the noticeable price gap between 5G and non-5G models, an important question arises: Is there a real difference between 5G and 4G in daily usage?

    The Redmi Note 15 4G

We explored this question using the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 4G. This model comes from the well-known Redmi Note series by Xiaomi, which typically caters to the mid-range smartphone market. The Redmi Note 15 4G is considered the budget-friendly option and, as its name suggests, it does not support 5G connectivity.

In everyday scenarios, the lack of 5G isn’t immediately obvious, aside from seeing “4G” instead of “5G” next to the signal indicator in the status bar. During our testing in Germany, we found that 5G coverage is relatively decent, although 4G still fills in some larger gaps in connectivity.

    Theoretical vs. Practical Speed

Theoretically, 5G technology can achieve speeds up to 20 Gbit/s, but in real life, most users experience around 100 Mbit/s. When compared to LTE Advanced, the real-world benefits of 5G are more theoretical than practical, though it may provide slightly lower latency during actual use.

Another advantage of 5G is its capacity to handle more users at once, which is particularly beneficial in crowded areas. Additionally, the reliability of the network is reported to be excellent, making it a good fit for applications like autonomous driving.

    Performance Comparison

So, how does the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 4G stack up against a 5G device? The difference is clear. We conducted tests with the Redmi Note 15 4G and the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G using the same SIM card and in the same area. The 5G network was noticeably faster, indicating that the extra expense is justified. However, keep in mind that these results are based on a single test, and outcomes may differ in other locations or times.

Even without 5G capability, the Redmi Note 15 4G remains a reliable option, especially for those who are budget-conscious. It boasts a long-lasting battery, a very bright display, and offers six years of security updates.

New Galaxy Z TriFold Leak Hints at Lower Prices for Samsung Foldable

    Key Takeaways

    1. Samsung is preparing to release the Galaxy Z TriFold in the US, partnering with four states and seven retail locations for display.
    2. The expected launch date is rumored to be January 30, but no official confirmation has been provided by Samsung.
    3. The Galaxy Z TriFold will likely be available exclusively through in-person sales on a first-come, first-served basis.
    4. The estimated price for the Galaxy Z TriFold is around $2,759 for the 512 GB model, which is lower than the Galaxy Z Fold7’s price.
    5. Pricing for the Galaxy Z TriFold may vary by region, being cheaper in the US compared to China and South Korea, with unclear availability for 1 TB variants and trade-in options.

The US release of Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold might be coming soon. Recently, the company shared that it has partnered with four states and seven retail locations to display its first tri-folding smartphone. However, the press release only hinted that “availability details will be unfolding… soon.”

    No New Updates

Since that announcement, Samsung has not provided any more official information. Despite this, employees at Samsung Experience stores have reportedly been telling customers about the expected launch date for the device in the US. Specifically, they claim that the Galaxy Z TriFold could hit the shelves on January 30, though there are significant conditions attached.

    In-Store Only

For instance, some Reddit users have mentioned that Samsung plans to offer the Galaxy Z TriFold exclusively through in-person sales. The device will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, suggesting that the number of units may be even more limited than in other areas. Furthermore, the Galaxy Z TriFold is expected to be priced at approximately $2,759 for the 512 GB storage option.

    Price Comparisons

If this is accurate, the Galaxy Z TriFold would be sold for $640 less than the current Galaxy Z Fold7, which is priced at $2,013.99 on Amazon. Interestingly, this also indicates that the Galaxy Z TriFold may be cheaper in the US compared to other regions, where prices are set at CNY 19,999 (~$2,875) in China and KRW 3,590,540 (~$2,485) in South Korea. At present, there is mixed information regarding the availability of 1 TB variants, as well as whether Care+ and trade-in options will be provided.

  • Google Pixel 10 Pro Users Report Major Problems After Update

Google Pixel 10 Pro Users Report Major Problems After Update

    Key Takeaways

    1. Recent software updates for Google Pixel smartphones, particularly the Pixel 10 and 10 Pro, have caused significant user issues.
    2. Affected users report problems with WiFi, Bluetooth, cameras, and LED flashlight functionality.
    3. Common troubleshooting methods, such as restarting or factory resetting, have not resolved the issues.
    4. A temporary fix involves disabling Google Play Services and the Fitbit app, but this limits access to Google apps and the Play Store.
    5. Google is aware of the issues but has not provided a timeline for a permanent fix.

Software updates are generally meant to resolve issues, but sometimes they can create new ones. Recently, there has been a notable problem with an update for certain Google Pixel smartphones. Users have been expressing their frustrations on Reddit and in the Google Support Forum. The most affected models seem to be the Google Pixel 10 and the Google Pixel 10 Pro (XL), although some owners of older Pixel devices have also reported experiencing similar faults.

    Issues Caused by the Update

The problematic software update is said to lead to four main issues. Users are finding that their WiFi and Bluetooth connections are failing to work, the cameras are inoperable, and they cannot turn on the LED flashlight since the system claims it is already on. Not every affected Pixel phone experiences all these problems, however. In any case, restarting the device or using safe mode does not appear to resolve these issues. At least one user attempted to reset their affected Pixel phone to factory settings, yet this also did not fix the problems.

    Temporary Fixes and Google’s Response

A member of the Google community named Julas23 has found that the trouble may be linked to Google Play Services. They discovered that removing or disabling Google Play Services as well as the Fitbit app seemed to fix the issues. Nonetheless, without Google Play Services, users cannot access Google apps or the Google Play Store, which makes this solution impractical for the long-term. Google has acknowledged the issue and is aware of it, but there has been no announcement regarding when a fix will be available.

  • Apple MacBook Pro Face ID and iPhone Air 2 Camera Upgrade Leak

Apple MacBook Pro Face ID and iPhone Air 2 Camera Upgrade Leak

    Key Takeaways

    1. Uncertainty about iPhone Air 2’s camera: It may keep the single 48MP rear camera or add an ultra-wide camera.
    2. Mixed opinions among experts: Analyst Mark Gurman believes in the single camera, while leaker Instant Digital supports the ultra-wide addition.
    3. iPhone Air 2 expected to feature a slim Face ID module to accommodate potential extra camera space.
    4. Anticipated upgrade to the Apple A20 chipset for improved battery performance in the iPhone Air 2.
    5. Future MacBook Pro may have a compact Face ID module, M6 Pro and M6 Max processors, a new design, touchscreen, and advanced facial recognition technology.

Over the last few months, there have been mixed signals regarding the next model of the Apple iPhone Air. People are curious if it will keep the single rear camera with a 48MP sensor or if it will add an ultra-wide camera like the cheaper iPhone 17.

    Different Opinions on Camera Features

While Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman believes that the iPhone Air 2 will maintain just the single rear camera, the well-known leaker Instant Digital supports the idea that an ultra-wide camera is on its way. To achieve this, Apple seems to be working on a really slim Face ID module that would allow for enough room for an extra rear camera within the phone’s sleek design. Additionally, the iPhone Air 2 is anticipated to have an upgrade to the more efficient Apple A20 chipset, which should enhance battery performance. Other than that, not much else is expected to change. The iPhone Air 2 might be launched in the spring of 2027.

Upcoming Changes to the MacBook Pro

Moreover, the leaker mentions that the same compact Face ID module is likely to appear in the future MacBook Pro, which will come equipped with the Apple M6 Pro and M6 Max processors. There have been hints that the MacBook Pro M6 could introduce a completely new design, featuring a touchscreen and a Dynamic Island instead of the usual notch. It’s also possible that the fingerprint sensor will be replaced by Apple’s advanced 3D facial recognition technology, allowing the laptop to unlock automatically when opened.

    2. The Edge 70 Fusion will feature a more advanced Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset.
    3. The device will have a 50% increase in RAM, enhancing performance significantly.
    4. Expect a 15% improvement in single-core performance and a 43% increase in OpenCL GPU scores.
    5. The Edge 70 Fusion will include a robust 7,000 mAh battery and a 50 MP main camera.

Earlier this month, tipster Evan Blass revealed some info about a new smartphone from Motorola, part of the Edge 70 series. Up to now, Motorola has launched the Edge 70, which serves as a sort of replacement for both the Edge 60 and Edge 60 Pro. Blass has hinted that the Edge 70 Fusion is coming soon, featuring impressive hardware, including a display that reaches 5,200 nits.

    New Successor on the Way

Recently, two Geekbench listings support the notion that Motorola is set to replace the Edge 60 Fusion (currently priced at $379 on Amazon) with a new model. Both listings indicate that the Edge 70 Fusion will come with a more advanced chipset than the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 mentioned in Blass’ latest tweet. In fact, the chipset’s cluster 3 clock speed of 2.71 GHz points to it being the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, as opposed to its older version.

    Performance Enhancements

Thanks to this new chipset and an increase of 50% in RAM, the Edge 70 Fusion can deliver a 15% improvement in single-core performance and a 43% increase in OpenCL GPU scores in Geekbench 6.5. However, the Edge 70 Fusion only shows a 5% gain in multi-core performance over the Edge 60 Fusion, which we evaluated in early 2025. Alongside these performance upgrades, users can expect a robust 7,000 mAh battery and a 50 MP main camera, among other enhancements compared to the Edge 60 Fusion.
