  • Square Enix Hints at Final Fantasy 16 Switch 2 Port Possibility

Square Enix Hints at Final Fantasy 16 Switch 2 Port Possibility

    Key Takeaways

    1. Possible Nintendo Release: Square Enix hinted at a potential release of Final Fantasy 16 for the Switch 2 during a livestream, with comments from producer Naoki Yoshida and creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro.

    2. Caution Advised: Gamers should be cautious not to assume an official confirmation regarding the Nintendo version since the statements were not definitive.

    3. Upcoming Titles: Additional Final Fantasy games, including Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, are expected to be released on the Switch 2, along with Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles on September 30th.

    4. Performance Concerns: There are worries about the performance of Final Fantasy 16 on the Switch 2, as it is demanding on hardware and has faced issues on other platforms like PC and Steam Deck.

    5. Market Interest: Square Enix may not struggle to attract players on the Switch, given the popularity of previous titles on Nintendo systems, unlike the initial reception of Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox.

After the recent launch of Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox consoles, there are growing signs that it might also be released for the Switch 2. During a livestream for Final Fantasy 14, an important figure from Square Enix hinted at a possible Nintendo version. As one ResetEra user translated, producer Naoki Yoshida remarked that the only platform missing a version of Final Fantasy 16 was Nintendo. Creative Director Kazutoyo Maehiro then added, “Will do his best.”

    Caution is Advised

It’s important for gamers not to jump to conclusions about this statement, since it’s not an official confirmation. However, it seems unusual for anyone at Square Enix to bring up Nintendo if there weren’t any plans for a port in the works.

    More Titles Coming Soon

Fans are already aware that additional Final Fantasy games will be arriving on the Switch 2. In May, it was revealed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade would be released for the handheld system. Furthermore, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, along with an undisclosed third installment in the trilogy, are also likely to be ported. For those who still need more games on their Switch 2, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is scheduled to launch on September 30th.

    Performance Worries

Some skeptics are concerned about how well the demanding Final Fantasy 16 will operate on the Switch 2. Players on PC can confirm that it puts significant stress on GPUs, resulting in uneven frame rates. Additionally, many consider the game nearly unplayable on the Steam Deck. Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, previously praised the Switch 2’s specifications, stating that the extra power made the port feasible. Nevertheless, getting Final Fantasy 16 to run smoothly on handheld devices may need more work.

    Market Interest

One challenge that Square Enix might not face with Final Fantasy releases on Switch is drawing in customers. Previous titles attracted large player bases on Nintendo systems, including the original Switch. Conversely, Final Fantasy 16 had a tough time capturing the interest of Xbox gamers at first, although sales eventually started to pick up.

By the time of launch, player numbers had surged past 27,000. Community threads have highlighted the game’s depth and detail, but some have expressed concern over the limitations on AI skirmish gameplay. As mentioned previously, Steel Balalaika promptly released an update to introduce 1v1 and 2v2 skirmishes and to address early complaints regarding AI and team play. Reviewers from Strategy & Wargaming awarded Broken Arrow an 8.5/10, labeling it “the best RTS game of 2025.”

    Future Plans

In the Steam Community, the developers have committed to providing ongoing support that will include new factions, expanded theaters, enhanced AI and multiplayer tools, with discussions about console support still ongoing.

Broken Arrow is certainly a great choice for strategic gamers looking for a military RTS that is both accessible and detailed. Its full launch on June 19 promises a bright future for a game that already impressed during early access.

Shortly after the surprise release of its DLC, Overture, Neowiz has revealed that Lies of P has achieved sales of over 3 million copies to date. This is quite an impressive milestone, especially for their initial venture into the Souls-like genre, which many fans believe rivals the original games. Creating a blend of Bloodborne and Sekiro is no easy task, yet Neowiz has succeeded right from the start.

    Accessibility Features Added

To make Lies of P more user-friendly, the developers implemented difficulty sliders, a feature not commonly seen in Souls-like games. While some players feel this takes away from the overall experience, the default difficulty setting, known as Legendary Stalker, might have been a bit too much. Following the Overture update, a lot of players have voiced concerns that the game has become excessively tough, prompting the release of a new patch to fix these issues.

The sequel is already being developed, utilizing the challenging Unreal Engine 5. • Amiibo Sales Decline as US Tariffs Increase Nintendo Switch 2 Prices

Amiibo Sales Decline as US Tariffs Increase Nintendo Switch 2 Prices

    Key Takeaways

    1. Nintendo confirmed the price of the Switch 2 will remain the same despite US tariffs, but amiibo accessory prices have increased.
    2. The popularity of amiibo figures has declined, with many items left unsold on store shelves.
    3. Amiibo are collectible figures that unlock in-game content, but their appeal has decreased recently.
    4. New amiibo, like the Donkey Kong and Pauline figures, are priced around $29.99, with some collectibles hitting $39.99.
    5. Shoppers are prioritizing the Switch 2 console and games over amiibo, leading to a search for cheaper alternatives like amiibo cards or NFC emulators.

After some worry in April, Nintendo confirmed that the price of the Switch 2 would stay the same despite US tariffs on products from China. However, the prices for accessories have gone up, with amiibo figures being among them. The recent Donkey Kong Bananza Direct highlighted these collectible items, introducing a new amiibo. With prices reaching as high as $40, many Nintendo enthusiasts have noticed a drop in the popularity of these accessories among buyers.

    Discussion on Amiibo Prices

A thread on the Switch 2 subreddit has ignited conversations regarding the rising prices of amiibo. Once, a particular store would quickly sell out of certain models, but now those same items are left sitting on the shelves. Other players also shared their experiences, mentioning similar situations at different stores.

    What Are Amiibo?

An amiibo features beloved characters from Nintendo games, such as The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. They come with NFC tags that can be scanned with compatible controllers. While gamers can unlock special in-game content with them, the appeal of the Switch 2 accessories seems to have diminished in recent times.

The latest Donkey Kong and Pauline amiibo is now available for pre-order and might perform better than some competitors. Although $29.99 may still feel pricey for certain fans, other amiibo figures have increased by $10. For instance, some collectibles from Street Fighter 6 are now priced as high as $39.99. This situation has led buyers to seek out inventive options. Less expensive amiibo cards offer a limited range but still include NFC tags for accessing in-game bonuses. Another option is using an NFC emulator or rewriter to make custom amiibo.

    Impact of Tariffs on Pricing

For higher-priced items, the influence of US tariffs may not be as clear. However, any price increases are quite noticeable for lower-end Switch 2 accessories. Similar to many toys, amiibos are mainly plastic products manufactured in China. At the moment, shoppers are focusing more on purchasing the console and games rather than these cute collectibles.

  • Nintendo Switch 2 Surpasses Xbox Series S|X and PS5 Sales in Japan

Nintendo Switch 2 Surpasses Xbox Series S|X and PS5 Sales in Japan

    Key Takeaways

    1. The Nintendo Switch 2 achieved over 1 million sales in Japan within the first 2 weeks, surpassing certain Sony PlayStation 5 variants.
    2. It has outperformed the combined lifetime sales of Microsoft’s Series S and X consoles in Japan, which remain in third place in the market.
    3. The gaming community is divided on the Switch 2’s improvements over its predecessor, but it is establishing a unique market position.
    4. The Switch 2 is priced at ¥49,980 (around $343) in Japan, nearly 16% cheaper than its $450 price in the U.S., aiding its success.
    5. Nintendo’s stronghold in Japan is reinforced by better wholesale margins for retailers and the console’s backward compatibility with older media and controllers.

Despite significant supply issues for the Nintendo Switch 2, the handheld device has quickly taken the lead in its home country of Japan, achieving over 1 million sales in just the first 2 weeks. This impressive figure places it ahead of certain variants of the Sony PlayStation 5 regarding total sales, like the base model’s Digital edition.

    Comparison with Microsoft Consoles

In addition, it shows that the Switch 2 has already outperformed the combined lifetime sales of Microsoft’s Series S and X consoles, which continue to lag behind in Japan’s competitive gaming market, consistently occupying a distant third place.

    Community Opinions

The gaming community is split on the Switch 2’s supposed improvements compared to its predecessor before its release. While the Nintendo Switch 2 faces high expectations to replicate the success of the original, it appears to be carving out its own niche in the market.

    Pricing Strategies

This could be due to Nintendo’s aim for a clear victory in its home market: the new console retails for $450 in the United States, but in Japan, it’s priced at ¥49,980 (around $343), which is nearly a 16% discount compared to the U.S. pricing.

    Confirmation of Sales Figures

Initial reports from last week suggested that the Switch 2 had exceeded the 1 million sales mark in Japan. We now have confirmation from Famitsu, a Japanese gaming magazine that also tracks similar statistics for other consoles in the region.

    Nintendo’s Market Position

Nintendo’s stronghold in Japan is well-known, as the company has consistently performed well in the territory with all its major console releases, even with the less successful Wii U. In contrast, Microsoft’s Xbox struggles to compete against both Sony’s and Nintendo’s products in Japan, mainly due to a lack of regional support that rival consoles benefit from. Recently, Sony has raised the price of the PS5 by 20% since September 2024, reducing its competitive edge.

Some of Nintendo’s success can be linked to its better wholesale margins (5% compared to the usual 2%) offered to retailers. Additionally, the Switch 2 supports backward compatibility for previously purchased digital and physical media as well as older Joy-Cons and Pro controllers.

    Global Sales

Globally, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold around 3.5 million units as of June 9, as confirmed by Nintendo in a recent corporate announcement, showcasing strong international demand and a solid pipeline for pre-orders.

  • Black Myth: Wukong, Hogwarts Legacy, Witcher 3 – 60 FPS on macOS

Black Myth: Wukong, Hogwarts Legacy, Witcher 3 – 60 FPS on macOS

    Key Takeaways

    1. High FPS Performance: Apple Silicon Macs, particularly the M1 Max, can achieve or exceed 60 FPS in games like Black Myth: Wukong, Hogwarts Legacy, and The Witcher 3 with suitable settings.

    2. DLSS vs. AMD FSR: DLSS offers better performance compared to AMD FSR, with significant frame rate improvements in games when using DLSS for upscaling.

    3. Challenges with Spider-Man Remastered: The game faced configuration issues; using DLSS alone provided the most stable performance, while mixing DLSS with AMD FSR resulted in frame drops.

    4. Encouraging Future for Mac Gaming: The combination of Game Porting Toolkit 3.0, Metal 4, and Crossover shows promise for gaming on Macs, allowing for smoother gameplay in more titles.

    5. Performance Variations: Different games have varying performances based on settings and technologies used, highlighting the importance of optimizing configurations for the best results.

A recent video from the YouTube channel Blendlogic Tech highlights the advancements of Apple Silicon Macs in gaming. The creator tested various games using Crossover on an M1 Max MacBook Pro, running macOS 26 “Tahoe”, Metal 4, and the latest Game Porting Toolkit 3.0 (auto beta 1). Among the games, Black Myth: Wukong, Hogwarts Legacy, and The Witcher 3 managed to achieve or surpass 60 FPS under suitable settings.

    Understanding Features

For those who may not know how technologies like DLSS, Metal FX, and frame generation work on macOS, these concepts have been detailed in a different article linked here.

    Game Performance Insights

In the tests conducted by Blendlogic Tech, Black Myth: Wukong showed impressive performance, with DLSS providing frame rates around 70 FPS. The creator noted that the game ran well with Nvidia’s upscaling, but AMD FSR didn’t perform as well. Although there were issues such as untranslated menus and frame generation inconsistencies, pinpointing the exact cause was challenging, they mentioned. The YouTuber also speculated that newer Apple chips, like the M2, might yield even better outcomes.

    Hogwarts Legacy Results

Hogwarts Legacy performed admirably during testing. With DLSS activated, the game reportedly started at roughly 45 FPS. Enabling frame generation almost doubled the performance to 90 FPS indoors and brought it close to 70–80 FPS in outdoor settings. However, switching to AMD FSR caused a performance drop, averaging about 40 FPS indoors and around 30 FPS outdoors, despite frame generation being on. The creator concluded that DLSS provides a more dependable upscaling experience on Apple silicon based on the results.

    The Witcher 3 Performance

According to the YouTuber, The Witcher 3 operates under DX11, which currently limits access to frame generation. Nonetheless, the performance remained strong during testing. On low settings, the game exceeded 120 FPS, fully utilizing the MacBook Pro’s 120 Hz ProMotion display. Even on ultra settings, with HairWorks turned off, it still maintained a steady 60 to 70 FPS.

    Spider-Man Remastered Challenges

Spider-Man Remastered posed more challenges in terms of configuration, as shown in the YouTuber’s video. DLSS combined with Metal FX achieved around 50 FPS, but enabling AMD’s frame generation dropped performance to the low 40s. The possibility of mixing DLSS with AMD FSR’s frame generation was also tested, but this setup resulted in more frame drops, likely due to the conflicting upscaling pipelines. The video ultimately suggests that the most reliable performance came from using DLSS alone with frame generation disabled.

    Promising Future for Mac Gaming

With GPTK 3.0, Metal 4, and Crossover working together, Blendlogic Tech’s video presents an encouraging outlook for gaming on Macs. For Apple Silicon users ready to tweak settings, achieving 60 FPS gaming is now possible with an increasing number of titles, even those that are not officially supported on Macs.

    Additional Titles Explored

The YouTuber also tested several other games, including Spider-Man 2, Armored Core 6, and Marvel Rivals. For a detailed performance breakdown and to see how these games performed, be sure to check out the complete video linked below.
