    The Initiative, a game studio, was responsible for leading the reboot’s development in partnership with Crystal Dynamics. The project had been underway before its formal announcement in 2020. Recently, it was canceled as part of Microsoft’s significant cuts to the Xbox staff, which also led to the closure of the Santa Monica-based game studio.

    The reboot of the beloved first-person shooter from 2000 has been officially scrapped, with the 2024 gameplay trailer being the sole glimpse of what a remake of Perfect Dark could have been.
