    Critical Reception

    Swiss gaming magazine Games.ch seems to agree: the editorial team praised Sunderfolk above all for its intuitive smartphone controls and strong co-op experience, while the atmospheric narrator also made a positive impression. Another clear plus point is that only one copy of the game is required for couch co-op – other players can join for free via the app. Criticism was mainly directed at the rather generic story, limited character customization and sometimes repetitive missions. In the end, the testers awarded Sunderfolk 85 out of 100 points.

    Scores and Platform Experience

    Metacritic lists Sunderfolk with a Metascore of 79 and a User Score of 7.8. On Steam, however, the role-playing game has been received much more warmly: 91% of almost 2,000 user reviews are positive. Although the RPG is classified as “Verified” on Steam Deck, it is unlikely to fully play to its strengths there – those clearly lie in a shared couch co-op evening with friends.

    Other specs of the 64GB MS-S1 Max are also the same as the 128GB variant. Of course, the lower amount of RAM means that it will not be possible to assign 96GB of VRAM to the capable Radeon 8060S iGPU. But then again, there’s a full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 slot available, allowing users to install a dGPU if needed.

    Port selection and build quality shine

    As we noted in our review, the port selection is another highlight of the Minisforum MS-S1 Max. Among all, the two 80Gbps USB4 v2 (4-feet USB4 v2 Silkland cable curr. $24.99 on Amazon) and two 10GbE LAN ports are the highlights. We also liked the build quality of the chassis and praised how easy it is to get into the mini PC.

    Cooling and expansion notes

    However, while Minisforum boasts about the internal cooling setup, we found the MS-S1 Max to get a bit too loud in idle mode.     DMA cards plug into a motherboard’s PCIe slot, and can be used to bypass Vanguard’s protection by directly accessing Valorant’s memory from outside the game. They’re usually hard to detect and somewhat expensive. However, the latest Vanguard update can now detect DMA cards and trigger an IOMMU (Input-Output Memory Management Unit) restart. Vanguard forces Windows to cut off the DMA device’s access by flagging it as unsafe. The only way to access it again is to do a full OS reinstall.

    At first glance, this might seem like a legitimate move to combat the ever-evolving cheating scene in competitive games like Valorant. However, it also sets a horrible precedent for game companies, who have no business disabling user hardware remotely—even if it is being used for malicious purposes. As stated above, Vanguard has been known to malfunction, and it is only a matter of time before a false positive ends up bricking someone’s hardware.

    Potential Consequences

    Needless to say, Riot’s little stunt has received tremendous backlash from the community, and rightfully so. Cheating in video games is unethical and downright scummy, but it’s not illegal. But remotely disabling user hardware, albeit temporarily, is very much the case. Furthermore, the resulting OS reinstalls could result in data loss. It is only a matter of time before the lawsuits start flying, and it’ll be interesting to see how Riot tries to justify its outrageous practices.

The Best Buy leak and the pre-order mishap in recent weeks caused plenty of excitement in the community without anything actually happening.
