3. FIFA’s shift to multiple third-party studios marks a new licensing approach after splitting from EA Sports, with Motorola devices offering exclusive pre-installations and rewards.
4. The game’s timing aims to capitalize on the FIFA World Cup 2026 kickoff, testing its appeal beyond the tournament period without direct competition from EA Sports FC.
FIFA’s new mobile game is about to come out
After ending their exclusive contract with EA Sports, FIFA is releasing a new mobile game called FIFA Heroes. But, it’s not arriving when people had hoped, since it will be launched sometime in May 2026 but no exact date has been given. The developers, ENVER Studio and Solace Games, said it will miss its initial target of April 28.
Game availability and platforms
Right now, the game is available early for Android users in Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Soon, a full version will be released worldwide for iOS, Android, and PC in May. Later, versions for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox will also be available but the dates are not yet known.
Gameplay features
This game is different from regular football simulators. Matches are quick, lasting only about 90 seconds, and are played 5v5 on the field. Players can use special hero abilities, like teleporting, shooting powerful long-range shots, and blocking opponents with unique moves. The style is very focused on mobile gameplay, not like EA Sports FC games.
Players and characters
The game has a diverse team of characters, including popular international football stars like Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane, and Emiliano Martinez, licensed through FIFPRO. It also features legendary players such as Diego Maradona. Plus, the game includes mythological characters like Thor and Sun Wukong. The game even features FIFA World Cup 2026 mascots, and at launch, there will be a special World Cup mode to enjoy.
Background and licensing issues
FIFA and EA Sports parted ways because they couldn’t agree on a new deal, mainly over money, with reports saying EA would have needed to pay around $1 billion over four years. FIFA Heroes is the first game after this split, marking a new approach where FIFA collaborates with different studios instead of using a single publisher for licensing rights.
Partnership with Motorola
Motorola is partnering with the game to feature some smartphones. Certain Motorola phones, like the Razr Fold, will come with FIFA Heroes already installed and will offer a special gaming experience suited for foldable phones. Additionally, there will be exclusive in-game rewards for Motorola users.
Upcoming tournaments and future plans
This May, the game will launch to help generate excitement for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, starting in June across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. However, whether the arcade-style game will keep players interested after the tournament ends remains uncertain, especially since there is no direct competition from EA Sports FC.
Other mobile games heading to summer
FIFA Heroes isn’t the only major game heading into summer. On April 24, HoYoverse announced that Genshin Impact Version 7.0 will launch on August 12, 2026, adding the long-anticipated Snezhnaya region, exciting fans of the game worldwide.
