Monolith Soft and Nintendo are bringing the second entry in the Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy to the Switch 2, with a digital launch set for July 30, 2026. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition arrives on the eShop with 4K visuals, the addition of a new Rare Blade, and a revamped mercenary combat mode, continuing Rex and Pyra’s journey to Elysium.
A staggered release across the trilogy
This release follows the digital debut of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition on June 9, 2026. The physical version of that first entry will also arrive on July 30, aligning with the digital launch of the second game. The rollout concludes with Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, which is scheduled for both a digital and physical release on December 3, 2026.
Both upgraded titles leverage the additional processing power of the Switch 2 to address technical shortcomings that were present in the original Switch versions. Players can expect a target of 60 frames per second, paired with 4K resolution when playing in TV mode and 1080p in handheld mode. These performance improvements extend to the major story expansions for each game, smoothing exploration through the Future Connected epilogue in the first title and across the Cloud Sea of Alrest in Torna – The Golden Country for the second.
Exclusive content and the return of Torna
Owners of the physical release of Torna – The Golden Country will receive a free update on July 30 to unlock the same 4K and 60fps enhancements on Switch 2. Players who own Torna digitally as part of the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Expansion Pass, however, must purchase the separate Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack to access the improved visuals, as the original pass and the new upgrade are sold and applied independently.
Beyond the technical overhaul, each game introduces exclusive content. The Switch 2 Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition includes the Ether Jet, a high-speed vehicle designed for quickly traversing the game’s sprawling environments. This vehicle is central to the new Nopon Grand Prix mode, which features timed and score-based races across familiar landscapes. For the first time, Heart-to-Heart scenes are fully voiced in both English and Japanese, and players can unlock new party outfits as rewards.
New systems and a Xenosaga crossover
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition introduces Merc Assault, an action-oriented battle mode where players select up to six Blades and control them directly during mercenary missions, switching between characters mid-combat. The update also adds MOMO, a new Rare Blade crossing over from the Xenosaga series. MOMO can switch between Real and Imaginary forms to alter her elemental affinity, and she arrives with her own Blade quest titled The Home of the Soul. New equipment designs for Pyra and Mythra, earned through the Merc Assault mode, will also be visible during cutscenes and exploration.
Both Switch 2 Editions debut amiibo support for their respective games. Scanning compatible amiibo can yield EXP, SP, AP, or collectible items, with a rare chance of obtaining exclusive equipment tied to the Switch 2 upgrade. Existing owners of the original Switch versions can purchase digital upgrade packs to unlock these new features without buying the full games again.
