SpaceX has introduced a financing option for its portable Starlink Mini dish, allowing Roaming plan subscribers to spread the cost over time for the first time.
A new path to ownership
Until now, the Mini dish was only available through a one-time purchase. Its price debuted at a steep $599, later falling through direct sales channels where discounts are now common. For a brief period, Residential Max plan subscribers could even receive the hardware at no charge, part of an effort to encourage adoption of a supplementary Roaming plan for on-the-go use. That promotion has since ended, though the dish remains available directly from SpaceX’s website at a comparatively modest price.
Financing details and market positioning
For those who find the upfront cost a barrier, SpaceX is now offering a 12-month installment plan priced at $16 per month, totaling $192 by the end of the term. This represents the lowest official price ever for a Starlink Mini dish. The move arrives as the company also begins selling a smaller Standard V5 dish, which has shed roughly one-third of the bulk of its predecessor. That new model, however, has yet to see broad availability and cannot match the Mini’s portability.
Evolving hardware on the horizon
The new financing option may also signal a shift in inventory strategy ahead of an anticipated next-generation device. Reports point to a Starlink Mini 2 dish that would integrate its own built-in battery and a standard USB-C charging port. Such a design would free users from the need to carry external power sources, marking a significant step up in mobile independence. Whether the installment plan is aimed at clearing existing stock or simply widening access, the Mini dish is now within easier financial reach for anyone willing to try satellite internet on the move for $16 per month.
