Amazon has unveiled two additions to its Ring security camera family in the United States, bringing a peephole camera designed for renters and a redesigned outdoor camera to market. Both models offer 2K resolution and a set of features tailored to simplify home monitoring without complex installation, starting at $99.

A Door Camera Built for Apartments

The Ring Peephole Camera 2K is aimed squarely at apartment dwellers and anyone who wants to upgrade a standard door viewer into a connected security system. It replaces an existing front-door peephole and requires no drilling or permanent wiring, with an estimated installation time of about ten minutes. The unit consists of a speckled gray exterior module paired with an interior component.

A defining characteristic is its square 140-degree by 140-degree field of view, engineered to capture visitors from head to toe while also making packages left on the ground clearly visible. Power is supplied by a removable Quick Release Battery Pack, with compatibility for the higher-capacity Ultra battery.

Redesigned Outdoor Monitoring

The second-generation Ring Outdoor Cam is built to watch over yards, driveways, and balconies. The camera, including its stand, measures 2.76 x 2.76 x 5.39 inches and is offered in black and white finishes. Its field of view spans 140 degrees horizontally and 85 degrees vertically. Low-light performance has been improved with color night vision that renders natural hues in dim conditions before shifting automatically to a high-contrast black-and-white mode in full darkness.

The weather-resistant device operates in temperatures ranging from -4°F to 122°F and includes two-way talk with active noise cancellation. A security siren can also be triggered remotely through the Ring app.

Connectivity and Long-Term Support

Both cameras connect to home networks over the 2.4GHz band using Wi-Fi 4 and Bluetooth Low Energy. For reliable video streaming from the Outdoor Cam, Ring recommends an upload speed of at least 5 Mbps. Users can define custom motion zones and privacy zones in the app to control which events trigger smartphone notifications. Alongside one year of theft protection, the company guarantees a minimum of four years of ongoing software security updates for both models from the start of sales.
