Sony has introduced the IER-M500, a pair of wired in-ear monitors purpose-built for musicians during rehearsals and live stage settings. The design emphasizes dependable passive noise isolation, a neutral audio profile, and all-day comfort. A cable routing that loops behind the ear is intended to keep the monitors firmly seated even under accidental tugs or rapid movement.
Durable, serviceable design with stage-ready materials
The earphones are built around 5-millimeter dynamic drivers, delivering a sensitivity of 103 dB/mW, an impedance of 16 ohms, and a wide frequency response spanning 10 Hz to 40 kHz. The detachable cable design allows users to swap out the included 1.6-meter cable with a standard 3.5 mm mini-jack if it becomes damaged or if a different connection setup is required. Sony constructed the IER-M500 to endure demanding performance environments, citing resistance to sweat, moisture, and the daily wear of touring.
Color-coded convenience and recycled materials
A transparent plastic housing is available in three finishes: white, black, and a two-tone blue-and-red option. That combination colorway places blue in the left earpiece and red in the right, making identification instant beyond the small interior labeling. Thirty-five percent of the plastic used in the housing is recycled, a step Sony says reduces the product’s environmental footprint. To fine-tune the fit, the package includes ear tips in four sizes and ear clips in five sizes, along with a zippered carrying case.
Pricing and availability
The Sony IER-M500 is available for pre-order now at a price of $119 through Sony’s online store. Orders are scheduled to begin shipping on August 21.
