Apple’s next-generation ultra-thin iPhone is expected to gain a significant photography upgrade, according to new renderings and details shared by YouTuber John Prosser. The move aligns with earlier reporting from Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, who indicated weeks ago that the successor to the first iPhone Air would incorporate a second rear camera.

Familiar silhouette with a new ultra-wide lens

Prosser’s latest video depicts the tentatively named iPhone Air 2 with a design that departs little from its predecessor—except for the addition of a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. While the leaker notes that the final design has not yet been locked in, the overall form appears poised to carry forward the same minimalist aesthetic. The chassis is expected to remain just 5.6 mm thin and continue using a strong titanium alloy, distinguishing it from the rumored iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

The device is anticipated to house a larger battery despite its slim profile, aided by a new Apple A20 Pro chip built on a 2nm manufacturing process. That silicon shrink is likely to improve power efficiency and help offset the energy demands of the added camera hardware.

A refined display and new color option

Internal changes reportedly include a smaller Face ID camera module, which would shrink the Dynamic Island cutout and create space for the new rear ultra-wide sensor. On the color front, Prosser’s renders show a new Lavender finish joining the lineup, replacing the current Sky Blue option. It would sit alongside Space Black, Cloud White, and Light Gold.

Shifting the iPhone lineup by decade’s end

Prosser also speculates about a broader strategic shift in Apple’s smartphone portfolio. He suggests that entry-level iPhone models could eventually be phased out in favor of the thinner iPhone Air form factor. In such a scenario, Apple might offer only a standard iPhone—based on a future iPhone Air-like design—alongside the iPhone Pro and a foldable iPhone Ultra. The transition would hinge on the iPhone Air absorbing all the features currently found in the regular iPhone, potentially rendering a thicker design redundant. That inflection point is not expected to arrive before 2028 at the earliest. In the nearer term, the iPhone Air 2 is unlikely to debut until early 2027, arriving alongside the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.
