Today, Samsung took the wraps off the Galaxy Watch Ultra2, its most advanced rugged smartwatch to date. The wearable, designed for extreme conditions and endurance athletes, arrives in European markets with an LTE model priced at €749. It is offered exclusively in a 47 mm titanium case, available in Titanium Gray and Titanium Silver, and retains the distinctive orange quick-action button that defined its predecessor’s look.
A More Responsive and Enduring Core
At the heart of the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite platform. Samsung claims this processor delivers a 32 percent uplift in CPU speed and a 19 percent improvement in GPU performance compared to the Exynos W1000 found in the original Galaxy Watch Ultra. The practical result is snappier application launches and smoother on-wrist navigation. Complementing the faster silicon, the battery has been enlarged to 800 mAh, a 35 percent increase over the previous 590 mAh cell, which the company states is sufficient to sustain full-day workout tracking without needing a midday top-up.
Thinner Materials, Brighter Display
The physical chassis has been refined significantly, shaving the profile down to 10.7 mm, which is 12 percent thinner than the original Ultra’s 12.1 mm case. The factory-supplied silicone band has also been re-engineered, now measuring just 1.9 mm thick and weighing 26 percent less with a softer feel. Visual clarity outdoors gets a marked boost from a display that now reaches a peak brightness of 5,000 nits. During the launch presentation, Samsung showcased a diverse band collection for the Ultra2, including standard perforated sport bands in black, khaki, olive, and taupe to improve ventilation.
Advanced Navigation and Dive Intelligence
Samsung has deepened the focus on trail running, equipping the watch with route-tracking that offers turn-by-turn guidance, elevation profiling, and a hydration alert that estimates body water loss based on exertion data; these features require Android 13 or later and Samsung Health version 7.0 or above. For aquatic use, a diving mode engineered in partnership with Mares records depth, water temperature, and dive duration in real time. The watch carries IP69K and 10 ATM water-resistance ratings and complies with the EN 13319 standard, though full dive-computer capabilities demand a separate Mares application. Samsung confirmed the Mares partnership will remain exclusive to the Ultra2 among Wear OS watches for a two-year window.
Proactive Wellness and Fitness Scoring
A new Vitals early-warning system, also available on the standard Watch9, monitors heart rate, heart-rate variability, skin temperature, blood oxygen, and respiratory rate during sleep, flagging meaningful deviations from a user’s personal baseline. The feature requires seven nights of data for calibration and is explicitly not intended for medical diagnosis. Alongside it, a Fitness Index feature shared across both new watches assigns scores across five pillars—body composition, cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, and endurance—and introduces a training focus mode that issues weekly workout recommendations.
