Samsung’s next flagship smartwatch is shaping up to set new benchmarks in display brightness and battery life, according to fresh details shared by a well-known industry leaker. The forthcoming Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, already glimpsed in high-resolution renders alongside a variety of band options, has now had several key specifications brought to light.
Display and Brightness Record
At the center of the upgrade is a new AMOLED panel said to achieve up to 5,000 nits of peak brightness. That figure eclipses the 3,000-nit screen found in the current Galaxy Watch Ultra and surpasses the 4,500-nit MicroLED display on the $1,700 Garmin Fenix 8 Pro, positioning Samsung’s device to claim the title of brightest smartwatch display yet.
This leap aligns with technology Samsung Display previewed earlier this year. At Mobile World Congress 2025, the company demonstrated an OCF-OLED panel rated for 5,000 nits, promising uncompromised outdoor readability even in direct sunlight. The new panel architecture is also claimed to be 20 percent thinner and more power-efficient, drawing the same energy at 5,000 nits as previous-generation panels consumed at 3,000 nits.
Battery and Endurance Gains
A significant battery upgrade accompanies the display improvements. Leaked specifications point to an 800 mAh cell, up from the 590 mAh unit in the current model—a 35.6 percent increase totaling 210 mAh of added capacity. Combined with the more efficient OCF-OLED panel, this could push typical battery life well past the existing 60-hour rating, potentially stretching to three or four days between charges.
Rugged Design and Launch Timing
Durability credentials also appear to be advancing. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is expected to carry IP69K certification, indicating robust protection against high-pressure water jets and dust ingress, while retaining the 10 ATM water resistance previously indicated in leaked imagery.
Samsung is expected to introduce the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 on July 22, where it will share the stage with the Galaxy Watch9, Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide, and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.
