Garmin has expanded its presence in connected fitness by acquiring coaching and training platforms TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic. The deal, confirmed in an official company announcement, brings the two specialized services under Garmin’s portfolio as it looks to deepen its support for both endurance athletes and strength-training communities.
A strategic expansion of coaching tools
With the acquisitions, Garmin adds more than 120 employees from the two companies. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the firm has not yet outlined specific integration plans. It remains unclear whether TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic will continue to operate as independent platforms or become more tightly woven into Garmin’s existing ecosystem. However, the move signals that Garmin is further broadening its paid subscription offerings.
TrainingPeaks is widely used by endurance athletes and costs $134.99 annually for access to workout plans designed by professional coaches. TrainHeroic focuses primarily on strength training, providing a range of courses that can run up to $49 per month, while select programs are offered for a one-time payment. That price positioning suggests the new services are unlikely to be folded into Garmin Connect+ without additional fees.
A growing subscription ecosystem
Garmin already maintains a diverse lineup of premium services, including Garmin Connect+, Outdoor Maps+, Tacx Premium, the Garmin Golf Membership, cloud video storage through Vault subscriptions, inReach satellite plans, LTE subscriptions for dog trackers, and subscriptions for children’s smartwatches. Adding specialized coaching subscriptions would be a logical next step, creating a more complete suite of training resources that span endurance preparation, guided strength programming, and everyday wellness.
The acquisitions place Garmin in closer contact with the coaching relationships that many serious athletes rely on, pairing human-designed workout plans with the biometric data collected by its wearables. That combination could strengthen the company’s position against rivals that are also layering premium coaching and structured training content into their own platforms.
