Rumors about Xiaomi's first-ever in-house smartphone system on chip (SoC) have come back into the spotlight this year. This chip is expected to perform similarly to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and is being built on TSMC's N4P process. However, recent reports from MyDrivers suggest that this chip could be a completely different SKU, as they are now discussing a 3 nm application processor (AP) from Xiaomi. It seems that this new chip has already been taped out on an unspecified 3 nm technology.
Potential Specifications
Though not explicitly stated, it is believed that this chip might utilize a TSMC node, probably the N3E. The tape-out suggests that a launch could happen next year. Unfortunately, that's about all the information available at this time. More specific details, such as its CPU core design, selection of CPU cores, and GPU specifications, are expected to be revealed as the launch date approaches.
First Generation Expectations
Since this is a first-generation product, it’s likely to use standard Arm cores along with a Mali GPU. Interestingly, the 5G modem is said to come from UNISOC. Given the less-than-stellar performance of this modem, there's a good possibility Xiaomi may opt to use it in a tablet or a mid-range smartphone rather than in premium devices like the Xiaomi 16.
