While Xiaomi hasn’t introduced the Xiaomi 15 globally, and the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is still under wraps, it appears the brand is already preparing a mid-year update for its premium devices. A recent leak has surfaced, providing insights into the launch of the Xiaomi 15S series.
Upcoming Launch of the Xiaomi 15S Series
According to leaker Kartikey Singh, Xiaomi intends to unveil the Xiaomi 15S series later this year. It seems that only one model is on the agenda—the Xiaomi 15S Pro. The leaker notes that sales of the standard Xiaomi 15 have been very strong, which means that Xiaomi doesn’t see the necessity for a mid-year update. Instead, they will introduce the Xiaomi 15S Pro, which will feature a brand-new chipset.
Chipset Details for Xiaomi 15S Pro
Luckily, earlier leaks have given us some details about the chipset that will power the Xiaomi 15S Pro. As identified in Xiaomi’s code, the upcoming chipset will be the Surge S2, codenamed “XRING.” This Surge S2 is a new 3nm chipset developed by Xiaomi, utilizing ARM cores, and will succeed the Surge S1 that first appeared in 2017 with the Mi 5c.
Performance Expectations
It’ll be fascinating to see how the Xiaomi 15S Pro is positioned in the market. Recent leaks about the Surge S2 suggest that its performance is somewhat comparable to a chipset like the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Therefore, it may feel somewhat underwhelming when stacked against the company’s Snapdragon 8 Elite offerings.
