Xiaomi 15 Pro May Drop Variable Aperture, Adopt New Battery Tech

Xiaomi's 15 series is anticipated to be among the first Android flagships featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. As per earlier speculations, the series is slated for a year-end release in China.

Key Specifications Unveiled

Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station has recently disclosed several crucial details about the Xiaomi 15 Pro. According to him, the device is expected to feature a 2K micro-curved display. Another significant upgrade is the switch from an optical fingerprint scanner to an ultrasonic one, which typically provides quicker and more reliable unlocking capabilities.

Camera and Battery Enhancements

In terms of the camera, the Xiaomi 15 Pro will sport a 50MP main sensor with a large aperture, though it won't be a variable one, similar to the Xiaomi 14. Interestingly, the Xiaomi 14 Pro from last year offered a variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0. Additionally, a 50MP 3x telephoto camera will be included.

While DCS did not mention a third camera, it's likely that another 50MP sensor will be used for the ultra-wide-angle lens. A previous rumor this month suggested that the Xiaomi 15 Pro would feature a 50MP triple camera setup, utilizing the OmniVision OV50K and IMX882 sensors as the primary and 3x telephoto lenses, respectively.

Advanced Battery Technology

DCS also mentioned that the phone would incorporate a silicon-carbon negative electrode battery. This type of lithium-ion battery uses silicon for its negative electrode, offering several advantages over the traditional graphite-based batteries, such as higher energy density. The tipster also hinted at a larger battery capacity. Earlier reports indicated that the phone would come with a 5,500 mAh battery and weigh less than 200 grams.
