Ulefone may not be the most recognized name in the smartphone industry, but the brand has become known for its exceptionally tough phones, which are also offered in the US market. The company has recently teased the upcoming launch of two new smartphones, which are essentially variations of the same model. These devices are named the Armor 28 Ultra and the Armor 28 Ultra Thermal Version.
Key Features
One clear distinction, which is apparent in the marketing images, is that the Armor 28 Ultra Thermal Version comes with a thermal-imaging camera. This sensor can help identify wildlife after dark and is also useful for checking home insulation, among several other practical applications.
Performance and Specifications
Ulefone promotes the Armor 28 Ultra and the Armor 28 Ultra Thermal Version as the ultimate rugged smartphones ever made. Reviews will determine if this claim holds true, but the previous Armor 27T Pro performed admirably in our thorough testing last year. Like its predecessor, these two new models are somewhat hefty, but, like most rugged phones, they feature large batteries.
The Armor 28 Ultra runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+, which is a system on chip that lacks efficiency cores but includes performance cores like the X4 and Cortex A520. This device is 5G compatible and reportedly achieves an AnTuTu score of 2,100,000. Ulefone also highlights the 1-inch Sony IMX989 camera sensor. After its official announcement at IFA 2024 and a later delay, the new rugged Android phone with an optional thermal camera is set to be released this month, although exact pricing details are still not confirmed.
