Snapdragon-Powered DELL XPS 13 Boasts Superior Battery Life Over Intel
DELL recently introduced five laptops powered by Snapdragon processors, including the XPS 13 (9345), Inspiron 14, Inspiron 14 Plus, Latitude 7455, and Latitude 5455. Thanks to the Snapdragon chip, the XPS 13 has seen a significant improvement in battery life compared to its Intel-powered counterpart.
During the Computex keynote, Qualcomm’s CEO Cristiano Amon invited Dell’s senior executive Sam Burd to discuss the impact of integrating the Snapdragon X Elite chip. According to Burd, the new Snapdragon-powered XPS 13 now offers "multi-day battery life."
The Efficiency of Snapdragon-Powered Laptops
Burd highlighted that the laptop can achieve 27 hours of video streaming on a single charge, which is 9 hours more than the Intel version.
The XPS 13 with Intel’s Meteor Lake series Core Ultra 7 155H CPU features the same 55Wh battery as the Snapdragon X Elite, X1E-80-100 version. The Snapdragon variant is evidently more power-efficient, maintaining the same 13.4-inch FHD+ display with 500 nits peak brightness. It also includes the same 60W Type-C adapter for charging as the Intel model.

The new Arm-based XPS 13 is equipped with 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and a 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD. For connectivity, it offers 2 x full-function USB-C ports with 40Gbps bandwidth, Power Delivery, and DisplayPort support.

Qualcomm Unveils High NPU Scores for Snapdragon X Elite
Qualcomm recently revealed remarkable benchmark results on May 28th, highlighting the AI capabilities of their Snapdragon X Elite processor’s Hexagon NPU. The Snapdragon X Elite X1E-80-100's NPU achieved a score of 1787 in the UL Procyon AI test, far outstripping its competitors: the M3 (898 points) and Ultra 7 155H (480 points).
Significant Efficiency Gains
Qualcomm asserts that the Hexagon NPU operates with much lower power consumption than its rivals. Specifically, it shows a 22% reduction compared to the M3 and a 31% enhancement over the Ultra 7 155H.
Qualcomm has awarded the Snapdragon X Elite the title of “highest NPU performance per watt,” indicating an energy efficiency that is 2.6 times better than the M3 and an astonishing 5.4 times better than the Ultra 7 processor. Although these tests were carried out on Qualcomm reference designs and particular laptops, the results underscore the X Elite’s potential for efficient AI processing.
Real-World Application Potential
Qualcomm also demonstrated the GIMP + Stable Diffusion 1.5 raw image processing capabilities of the Snapdragon X Elite. In this scenario, the NPU provided 3 times the speed compared to the Core Ultra 7 155H, suggesting its promise for practical applications.

Snapdragon X Elite Outperforms Apple M2 in Multi-Core

Hardware enthusiast HXL has shared some benchmarks for the new Surface Laptop, which is powered by the Snapdragon X Elite processor. The data suggests that this processor could potentially rival Apple’s M2 chip. The benchmark was conducted using CPU-Z on a Surface Laptop 7 featuring the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 SoC. Since CPU-Z is not available for MacBooks, HXL utilized a virtual Windows 11 environment to run the benchmark.
It is important to note that virtual machines can introduce performance overhead, which might affect the M2’s score. Hence, this data should be considered with caution.
Performance Comparison
The Surface Laptop 7 achieved a significantly higher multi-threaded score (7,923.5 points) compared to the M2 running in the virtual machine (3,822.3 points). However, the M2 demonstrated a slight advantage in single-threaded performance (749.5 points vs. 686.0 points).
