Asus ROG Zephyrus G14: Now with Intel and AMD Ryzen CPUs

    Key Takeaways

    1. The ROG Zephyrus G14 now offers options for both Intel and AMD processors, unlike last year’s version.
    2. AMD GPU options are limited to the GeForce RTX 5060, while Intel can be paired with RTX 5080 or RTX 5070 Ti.
    3. The Intel model supports up to 64 GB of LPDDR5x memory, whereas the AMD version is capped at 32 GB.
    4. Port configurations vary, with the Intel version featuring Thunderbolt 4 and the AMD version including a USB 4.0 port.
    5. The ROG Zephyrus G14 has a 14-inch WQXGA+ display with HDR brightness of 1,100 nits and a 120 Hz refresh rate.

Alongside the ROG Zephyrus G16, Asus has also refreshed its smaller counterpart, the ROG Zephyrus G14. This time, customers can choose between Intel and AMD processors, which was not an option in last year’s version. However, there are some limitations regarding GPU selections. The Intel Panther Lake variant can be combined with either an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 or an RTX 5070 Ti GPU.

    AMD GPU Limitations

Conversely, the AMD Ryzen AI 400 Gorgon Point model is restricted to a GeForce RTX 5060. This GPU not only provides significantly less VRAM compared to the RTX 5070 Ti (12 GB against 8 GB), but it also has fewer CUDA cores and a TDP of 130 Watts versus 100 Watts. This limitation may push gamers to use AI-enhanced upscaling technologies like DLSS and FSR to maintain high framerates. Additionally, the Intel Panther Lake SKU can support up to 64 GB of LPDDR5x-7500 memory, while the AMD version is capped at 32 GB. Both ROG Zephyrus G14 configurations can be set up with a maximum of 2 TB NVMe SSD for storage.

    Port Layout and Other Specs

There are minor distinctions, such as the arrangement of ports, but these shouldn’t significantly impact everyday usage. The Intel version includes one Thunderbolt 4 port, one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port, two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports, a micro SD card reader, an HDMI 2.1 port, plus a 3.5mm combo audio jack. Meanwhile, the AMD edition substitutes the Thunderbolt 4.0 port with a USB 4.0 port, a change seen across many laptops. Other specifications, including a 73 Wh battery with 200 W fast charging capability, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, and a six-speaker array, remain unchanged.

    Display and Availability

Similar to the ROG Zephyrus G16, the Zephyrus G14 features an enhanced ROG Nebula display. The 14-inch WQXGA+ (2,880 x 1,800) screen achieves a peak HDR brightness of 1,100 nits and boasts a 120 Hz refresh rate. Asus presents the laptop in Grey and White color options. While a price and launch date have not been disclosed, they will be announced in the future.

  • Is 8 GB VRAM Enough for Blade 14? Great for 1080p Gaming!

Is 8 GB VRAM Enough for Blade 14? Great for 1080p Gaming!

    Key Takeaways

    1. Gamers prefer a 14-inch laptop with the GeForce RTX 5090, but compact devices face unique challenges.
    2. Asus has enhanced the ROG Zephyrus G14 with stronger GPU options (RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080), but it starts at 3400 Euros.
    3. Razer offers a lighter design with the RTX 5070 Laptop at a lower price of 2399 Euros, questioning the value of higher VRAM.
    4. The RTX 5070 Ti Laptop shows only a 7% performance lead at 1080p over the RTX 5070 Laptop, with better advantages at QHD resolution.
    5. Upgrades for gaming laptops, like increased VRAM, are desirable but come at a higher cost; Razer’s Blade 14 remains a good value in its category.

Most gamers likely desire a 14-inch laptop equipped with the GeForce RTX 5090, featuring silent cooling and a reasonable price. However, the situation is not that simple, as compact devices come with their own challenges. Manufacturers are aware of sales trends and can gauge if investing in more powerful models will be beneficial. Asus has put extra effort into the 2025 ROG Zephyrus G14, modifying the chassis and cooling system to support two stronger GPU options, the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop and RTX 5080 Laptop. Nevertheless, this effort comes at a cost, with the G14 featuring the RTX 5070 Ti starting at a minimum of 3400 Euros in Europe. Only time will reveal whether the sales will validate this investment.

    Razer’s Approach

On the flip side, Razer has chosen to provide the RTX 5070 Laptop as the top GPU option, now in a sleeker and lighter design. They’ve also cut the price compared to the earlier model, and our reviewed setup with the Ryzen AI 9 365, 32 GB RAM, and RTX 5070 Laptop has a recommended retail price of 2399 Euros. This raises the question: are you truly willing to spend an extra 1000 Euros for an additional 4 GB of VRAM and slightly better performance?

    Performance Insights

As addressed in our detailed review of the Razer Blade 14, there are certain restrictions in QHD resolution due to the VRAM, leading to potential frame drops. Indiana Jones, in particular, has been problematic as it is quite demanding on VRAM, which could soon become an issue for the 5070 Ti Laptop as well. But what about gaming at 1080p? We took a closer look at Full-HD performance, primarily focusing on newer titles.

Even with the upgraded processor and the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop featuring 12 GB VRAM, the ROG Zephyrus G14 only leads by about 7% on average at 1080p. There are exceptions, such as F1 25, which has intense hardware demands, but in most cases, the difference is minimal. The advantages of the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop become more evident at QHD resolution, which we have detailed in our review.

    Final Thoughts

It would have been great to see a Razer Blade 14 with faster GPU options and increased VRAM to better serve gamers in the coming years. However, such upgrades come with a price. Still, the overall offering of the new Razer Blade 14 presents a compelling value at this price range.

Asus Launches Affordable ROG Zephyrus G14 Gaming Laptops

    Key Takeaways

    1. Asus launched an updated ROG Zephyrus G14 with options for Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 GPUs.
    2. The new model features a Ryzen 9 270 CPU, replacing the previous Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.
    3. The GA403UM is priced starting at $1,799, making it a more budget-friendly option compared to the nearly $2,500 original model.
    4. A variant with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and GeForce RTX 5060 is currently only available in China.
    5. Key features include a 3K/120 Hz OLED display and a 73 Wh battery, similar to more expensive G14 models.

Asus has unveiled a variety of new devices at Computex 2025 this year. Among these is an updated version of the ROG Zephyrus G14, which comes out less than six months after the release of the ROG Zephyrus G14 and G16 models featuring up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 GPU.

    New Configurations

In contrast to its predecessors, the latest model can be configured with either Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5060 or GeForce RTX 5070 GPUs. It remains part of the GA403 generation, similar to other ROG Zephyrus G14 models launched this year. The GA403UM replaces the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 with the Ryzen 9 270, which is basically a rebranded Ryzen 9 8945HS. As a result, the new ROG Zephyrus G14 may offer lower CPU and integrated GPU performance compared to Asus’ more affordable gaming laptops like the TUF Gaming A14 FA401, which is currently priced at $1,599.99 on Amazon.

    Pricing and Availability

However, the GA403UM is expected to be a more budget-friendly entry point for the ROG Zephyrus G14, which is currently selling for nearly $2,500 in the US. In comparison, the GA403UM will launch next month starting at $1,799, including 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. Asus will also provide the same CPU and GPU setup with 32 GB of RAM and a 2 TB SSD for $2,099.

    Additional Variants

Interestingly, Asus has also developed a variant of the ROG Zephyrus G14 with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and GeForce RTX 5060. Unfortunately, this version has only been made available in retail in China as of now. From what we can see, the other hardware features remain the same as those found in Asus’ pricier ROG Zephyrus G14 (GA403) models, including a 3K/120 Hz OLED display and a 73 Wh battery.
